If you fly in to Roche Harbor, visiting the Harbor is the only thing you can get to within walking distance. It's gorgeous and the food is great, but if you long to see slightly more of the island, Susie's Mopeds is the only real option for transportation, other than a taxi. There is no competition, so the rates can't compare to Hertz and Avis on the mainland. Rent a scooter or small car for 2 hours, and you may as well pay the daily rate and keep it all day. Figure $100 for the car and $120 for the 2-person scooter all day. You can spend less for an hour, if you just want to escape the airport, see some scenery, and not really make any stops anywhere. The folks there are right at the end of the runway and are as friendly and helpful as can be. They must figure that if you flew in for a $100 burger, then a $100 scooter is reasonable too.
