In case you missed it, right traffic on 22, ask me why I am posting this... Quite busy as I flew in, this exceptional staff handled everything smoothly. They monitor the Unicom, they are truly happy to see you, prices are right and folks are as friendly as they are competent. If you don't support this gem you should never complain about service elsewhere.

Flew my Navajo to Luray today for fuel. It was .20 more per gallon than advertised. I was not pleased.

If you've never made Luray a day or weekend destination, you really should. I flew in today with my little boy. I called Unicom to see if we could get a ride to the caverns, and Kenny drove out in their airport van and met us at the plane as I tied down. He drove us to the caverns, then 4 hours later when we were done we called him and he came, picked us up, and dropped us off right at our plane. While we were enjoying ourselves underground he had my 172 topped off. And they do this all day long. He had just shuttled another airplane load that came in right before we did. They will take you into town if you want to shop or eat. They'll take you to the caverns. Then just call and they come out and bring you back. Nice runway, nice tiedowns, great people. This is how an airport should be run ... By people who are happy to see you flying in. With a world-class natural wonder and small town Virginia life just a short drive away, why not visit Luray? Support GA!

Landed and the airport staff guy gave us a lift to Luray Caverns. We stayed a bit past 6pm (we were stuck in the maze). Get back to the Cessna and the plane is already fueled up ready to go with the gas receipt inside. Wish more airports had this type of "on-call" transportation

Nice, quiet airport with decent facilities. Full service fuel, though you need to pull up facing the pumps, so plan to push plane back out again. Beautiful location. Please note - The airport identifier changed to KLUA, but my sectional showed W45 still, and FSS had to be told the new identifier as well. Apparently FSS computers won't cross reference the old with the new identifiers, so he came up empty when W45 was typed in.

What can I say about Luray Caverns Airport that hasn't already been said in the other posts here. Kenny Painter and John Horton are without a doubt two of the best people in the aviation business. I fly all over the country and most airports and FBO's are looking at me with $$ in their eyes. Not these two gentleman, they are what aviation is supposed be about. Customer's first. Their hospitality is second to none, and I urge everyone that reads this to stop buy and see them. They always go above and beyond. Thank you Kenny and John for such outstanding service!!!! I look forward to seeing you soon.

Very friendly airport manager, fuels your airplane, brings you to the Caverns via the Airport Shuttle. AND, great fuel prices. What more could a pilot want? A pilot friendly airport with good facilities.

I stopped in Luray on my way from Florida to Canada to stay for the night. Since we had some bad weather the next day I had to stay for another night. I really enjoyed the stay in Luray. The Caverns and the old car museum were impressive. Kenneth went out of his way to make my stay in Luray a pleasant one. I did several stops on my journey and Luray was by far the friendliest place of all. Thank you Kenneth.

Nice friendly airport near attractions. Fuel prices the lowest around. John is friendly and will give you a ride into town/attractions and pick you up! Excellent service will definitely stop again.

We flew into Luray to visit the caverns on 7-26-10. We were met on the ramp by John who took very good care of us. John made two round trips to the caverns transporting everyone in our party over to the caverns. When we were finished, a call back to the airport and John picked us all up, again two trips. Luray is a nice little airport set in a picture perfect location in the Shenandoah Valley. No fee for parking, fuel was the least expensive on our trip and friendly helpful staff all in a nice location. What more could one ask for. Thank you for a nice day Luray, we will be back for another visit.

I got cut off by a thunderstorm on Saturday, June 26 and landed at Luray Caverns to check weather and get fuel. I decided it would be best to spend the night and try again on Sunday morning. Karen Culpepper, the attendant on duty, was very helpful, courteous and took my grandson and me to the hotel nearby, and then waited while we registered and placed our baggage in our room. Then she dropped us off at the entrance to the beautiful caverns for which the town gets its name, after giving us helpful directions to some of the restaurants. The next morning, the airport manager picked us up at the motel and returned us to our plane. While loading up the plane with baggage, I got a phone call from Karen. She was on her way to work at her other job, and just wanted to make sure my grandson and I had gotten picked up and weren't stranded. Great airport to visit, whether you just want to see the cavern, or just stop for fuel. Hospitality unmatched anywhere. Thanks, Karen.

W45 is a great little airport. My wife and I flew into see the Luray Caverns and it couldn't have been simpler, better, or cheaper! When we called in on Unicom, we were directed to parking, by the time we had the airplane closed up, Karen arrived with the van and took us directly to the Caverns...About a mile away. When we got done with the tour and lunch (we spent about 2.5 hours), we called and Karen picked us up. The fuel truck happened to be inop that day, so we had to fuel at the fuel tank, but normally we would have been fuel right where we parked. No charge for the two-way ride (tips only) and the avgas was a great price. Great airplane destination for a very pleasant afternoon. Beats the heck out of the regular $100 hamburger trip!

I had the privilege of receiving exceptional service at Luray Caverns airport. Last minute changes to my schedule required that I depart at 6am for a long day of flying. However, a snow storm had just passed and it was only 20 degrees outside. I called the FBO the night before and asked if I should have the engine pre-heated. He asked me what time I was leaving and he said it would be taken care of. I've been burned enough by FBOs to always have a back up plan. So... when I arrived at 6am, in the freezing dark, I was not too optimistic. I was expecting to turn around and go home and having to work from the phone, yet again. To my wonderful surprise, Kenneth Painter was in the hangar where my plane was located and the airplane was pre-heated and ready to go. I pre-flighted and was off the ground in 15 minutes. THAT is the definition of first-class service and in my opinion. In aviation, reliability is critical and they've earned my trust and business. Again, outstanding service.

Stopped by a few weeks ago. The FBO was on Unicom very promptly, and directed me to parking. Ken met at the plane with his van, and took us to the caverns, which is very close by. He gave met a slip of paper which had his phone number and brief instructions to get a ride back. When I called, Karen was there promptly to pick us up. Because they weren't too busy, Karen was able to give us a ride to the steakhouse mentioned in other posts. After we finished, she came and took us back to the airport. The plane was fueled as I requested, and I was able to pay by credit card in the van -- I never got to see the inside of the FBO. Everyone was very courteous and prompt. It made for an easy and pleasant day trip.

Great airport, with super friendly and helpful folks. Family flew in for the day to visit the Luray Caverns. I spoke with the FBO via Unicom and the van was ready to shuttle us over to the caverns before I could get the plane tied down. If I were to go again, I'd do it on a weekday or get there really early. Luray Caverns were a zoo. Way too many tourists. The crowds were really bad. The Caverns were neat to see, the kids really liked it, but the crowds really brought the fun factor down.

Beautiful airport, caverns nearby, staff went out of their way to help us including driving us to accommodations. Ken, the airport mgr is a real peach as is Bob. Situated in the spectacular Shenandoah Valley. Approaching from the east (SFRA - DC area) should not scare anyone. We flew into and out of Dulles without a hitch.

What a treat landing here. We were going from Grand Strand in SC (CRE) to Royalton (9G5) in Western NY and stopped here for fuel. Got the nicest welcome and an offer to drive us into town for food. Dropped a couple of other people off at the caverns and took us to a great deli downtown and then picked up us an hour later. Would come here anytime and we know we'll be back.
