Flew in to Wautoma on the way to Airventure to wait for the airshow to get over before we did the Ripon approach. Great new Terminal and the people there were fantastic. The local EAA chapter was serving burgers and brats for those waiting to go to Airventure. Made a point to stop on the way back from Airventure to get fuel. Great self serve pump. Definitely will stop again.

I am a pilot based at Y50. Many positive changes have taken place or are in progress that should be shared. Wautoma has new managers since spring of 2009. There is also a new terminal building to be finished in June 2011. The city has added equipment to aid in snow removal. Runway 08/26 is a great ski plane runway for winter (NE end shortened by intersecting taxiway that shortens the total length available. Use at own discretion.)And great turf runway in the summer. Just a fun little airport.

With OSH temporarily closed this summer, we landed here for fuel and a wait. We got a good price and invited over to the main hangar for a barbecue lunch. Turned out to be a very nice stop.

I stopped for fuel on a wintry day, just around dusk. Had to dig out the fuel hose on the self-service pump with my hands and feet because the snowplow had pushed the snow up over the hose reel and nobody dug it out. I looked in the FBO for a snow shovel, but didn't spot one. Self-service pump was easy to use, but it was tough to maneuver my low-wing Cherokee down the taxiway without hitting the snow banks. I guess this is a high-wing-only airport. I would stop back here in the summer, but probably never again in the winter.
