I fly for Priority Air Charter and delivered cargo to Griffin yesterday evening after the FBO had closed. After off-loading my cargo I needed to fax paperwork to the customer. I found a medivac crew in one of the buildings. They were gracious enough to allow me to use their fax machine. I also needed some fuel and went to the self-serve pump but was having problems with the pump. One of the local pilots (Mr. Tucker I think) was very helpful in getting things set up and helping me figure out why the pump wasn't pumping. We called a phone number posted next to the pump and talked to Mr. Mohl, the airport manager, who immediately came out (within 5 minutes) and helped to get things worked out. My hat is off to an airport that has so many friendly people willing to help out a total stranger get on his way!!!! I wish there were people like this at every airport! Thanks again to the medivac crew, Mr. Tucker and the airport manager, Mr. Mohl. Job well done - I'll be back!!

I stopped at Griffin last Friday. Robert was very helpful from the moment I touched down to the completion of the fueling. He completed it while I took care of other items for a quick stop. This is my second time in here in a Chieftain. I have no problem with the down hill fuel stop. A little preplanning goes a long way. Good fuel stop.

Arrived on a weekday, during business hours w/ another Cessna fueling in front of me. I shut the engine down and waited for the plane to finish fueling. Because of the steep grade of the concrete, I had a difficult time maneuvering the aircraft up to the pump. As I walked to the pump in search of wheel chocks, the plane started rolling backwards. I wedged a folded up sectional behind the wheel to hold it while I located the single chock at the pump. Once the plane was secured, I attempted to follow the instructions on the card reader. Due to sun glare and dim display, it was a challenge to get beyond this point. Once the pump turned on, it took a nearly a full minute for fuel to start dispensing, I suspect some sort of mechanical problem. I completed the fueling operation in about 20 minutes and at no time did anyone come out to greet or assist me. Further, there was no fuel price posted and to my shock, the fuel cost was nearly $1.00 higher per gallon than surrounding airports.

I just tried the self serve pump on the east side as the west pump was inop. There was no INOP notice placed at the inop pump station so I had to restart and taxi over to the pump by the FBO. The pump on the east side pumped about 8 gallons while making a lot of noise then stopped. The airport manager came out with a hammer and an adjustable wrench and said he could make it pump. It finally did and I got no water out of this pump like is common on the west side. The airport manager was courteous but commented that the city does not have the funds to maintain these pumps like they should. Also Griffin does not post their prices so you don't know what you paid until you get the receipt. Griffin is a short runway with steep dropoffs at each end, no crew car, and high gas prices. If you stop here its because you really needed to get on the ground.

Great airport manager. (Robert Mohl) We ("The Army Aviation Heritage Foundation") stopped to refuel 7 helicopters on the way home from an airshow. He was ready to refuel with two mobile trucks and a great attitude to help us. It was done quickly, friendly and efficiently.

Sep. 27-29 at Griffin to get DC3 Type. On the 29th before departure taxied to FBO for fuel. A very unsatisfactory experience Used self serve system to find the unit making substantial mechanical noise. Midway through filling main tanks unit shut down. Restarted and it shut down again. Asked for fuel truck and attendant insisted fuel pump was operative and demanded I try again notwithstanding fuel truck was in front of my airplane. I insisted and he unpleasantly relented. While I was being fueled another a/c arrived for fuel and this man insisted they use the self serve pump. I am told that after I left they tried with the same result. When I sumped my tanks I got water from both mains. Attendant insisted his fuel was clean and water must already have existed in my tanks. Nonsense. The a/c had flown from HPN nonstop to Griffin and then hangared so the water could only have come from the Griffin fuel. The attendant was unhelpful and very unpleasant.

After reading the preceding reviews, I had made my mind to refuel someplace else. That would have been a mistake. The self-service pump located midfield, on the south side near the log cabin, is one the better ones that I've used. The card reader is in a small building that even has a Coke machine in it. Gas prices are among the best in metro Atlanta.

I just got 100LL at the west end self-service pump and got water in the gas. We just had a lot of rain. This airport has no weekend call out numbers so I hung a sign in the shack until in the morning when someone comes in. These pumps are notoriously INOP or out of fuel and not maintained well, the ramp pavement around both sides is extremely uneven for an airport and a airplane rolling away or a prop strike is possible if you don't have help and know where the low spots are. I agree with the other comments - this airport is not concerned with price or customer service.

The only operable SS fuel was at the FBO. It's a nutsy operation as the ramp to the pump is DOWNHILL. Once in position it's mandatory to set a park brake or the plane will roll into the pump. There are no chocks in the pump area so dug my own out. Then, to clear the pump one has to PUSH hard back uphill while carrying a chock. Within feet I hit the crest where it's impossible to push back any farther, so I tossed the chock I was holding under the nose wheel to keep the plane from rolling back toward the pump. I had to then get in the cockpit, set the brake again, get back out, retrieve my chock, start up and swing clear of the pump. Whoever Ok’ed this pump set up must've been drinking at the time. NO HELP from the kid working inside with NO OTHER active planes at the FBO; there was one plane parked on the entire FBO ramp.

Griffin is an excellent airport for general aviation aircraft and the fuel is very reasonable. However, the local flight school FLY BOYS FLIGHT CENTER will take a "deposit" from your credit or debit of USD 1000.00 without your knowledge or permission, so |BEWARE||! Recommend going up the road to |Tara |Field for your airplane rentals and flight training.
