Avery County/Morrison Airport and Spruce Pine are easy to find because of the big strip mining ops just west of the runway that can be seen for long distances when arriving from the south. Recently, the tall trees hugging both sides of the runway on the approach end of 35 have been cut down. The runway has been resurfaced and painted. The FBO now has self-serve fuel. WOW!!! Spruce Pine??!! I've been flying here since Brad Ragan's MU-2's were based here. This airport has become much more accessible and pilot friendly for folks who aren't used to mountain flying, so drop in sometime. But don't forget, this is STILL MOUNTAIN FLYING. Thanks to Ryan and crew for a job well done and for taking good care of his pilots, etc.

Ryan does a great job! Very courteous and he is an A&P/IA if you need help. The fuel was $4.13, which was very reasonable considering it, is a low volume location. He has all the basic supplies also, John Perry, LongEz and now C177RG, Mt Royal Airpark, Fl

Ryan (A&P/AI) has a positive attitude is very accommodating (waived ramp parking fees with fuel purchase). He currently provides only full-serve fuel but is getting a self-serve pump. Hours are Tuesday-Sunday, but call ahead. Computer for flight planning and bathrooms are clean.
