Diverted into AEL due to headwinds on my long journey back to North Dakota from Iowa in my Cessna 150. I was happily surprised by reasonably priced mogas, and the airport manager even loaned me the keys to his car for a quick trip to get lunch!

Nice airport with air conditioning and wireless Internet. What more can you ask for?

For an airport in Minnesota the facilities at Albert Lea are embarrassing. For corporate travel this sit is a pilot's nightmare. There is nothing better than a hard chair in the lobby to sit in. No television or public computer. No car to go get lunch. For a town of this size more should be expected. It may seem like a lot to ask, but a corporate pilot will sit in a terminal for as many as 12 hours. This is a long wait without any transportation to town or comfortable place to sit. As much as I enjoy sitting in a shrine to an airport manager, I would much rather enjoy sitting in an FBO managed by somebody who understood corporate aviation. If this is merely a fuel stop it is an excellent airport for that. There is plenty of ramp space and a very attentive staff.

Busy airport plane wise but the building was locked up tight. The facilities looked better to me than the previous write-ups however.
