Stopping for fuel should be the only reason to come to this town. Noted on several online resources as the "armpit of the world", I can now concur, at least for the U.S. Harless Aircraft provided excellent service for fueling, no overnight parking fee, and provided us with a free overnight courtesy car (no other source of transportation). Super 8 Motel is the best of what's in town (trust me, I checked them all). El Aguila Real, the Mexican restaurant on Front St (775-635-8390), is the real deal here. Plan on having a beer (or two) while waiting for your meal, but it is worth the wait, and excellent value ($45 including lots of food and beer & tips for 2).

Stopped late in the day on the way from Salt Lake to Reno. Battle Mountain is a BLM tanker base. Nice folks, very accommodating. Loaned a car, for an over night. Hangared the aircraft. Everyone recommended the Owl's Head Restaurant in town. Good food and fair prices... Good place to stop. Highly recommend just watch the turbulence.

Got stuck here in a Robinson R44 helicopter, unable to proceed eastbound due to thunderstorms. We were refueled, put into a hangar overnight, and given a car overnight... All for less than the cost of an overnight hangar alone in Salt Lake City. Can't argue with the prices or attitude. The only thing that keeps Battle Mountain airport from being a perfect place to wait out a storm is the lack of high-speed Internet. All of the hotels in town seem to have it though. We stayed at the Comfort Inn, which was okay, and had a good meal at the Hideaway Steakhouse.

Harless Aircraft is an excellent FBO to stop at for refueling. You can expect quick attentive "SUPERB" service.

Stopped twice at Harless in two days (1-2 May). Quick, careful line service from nice lady at the FBO. Not much in town, but as a refueling stop, Battle Mountain is recommended.

Stopped on the way out to SF and back. Didn't go in to town but service was good and quick and airport was in good condition.

These folks were great! We arrived at Battle Mountain late (San Jose-to-Jackson Hole) and they were still there to fill us up (I called ahead just to inquiry about fuel and lodging). Since it was late, they let us plane-camp on the tarmac so we could get an early start the next morning...saved us time with driving into town and such. With the heat in the daytime, this was a good idea. On the return flight, we stopped in again for fuel...different faces, still the same great service! The airport is nice too...large ramps and runways in perfect condition. While there, check out the aircraft on static display...a 2 minute walk from the office. All sorts of Fighter jets and such (F-4, F-111, Sabre, C-119)...an unexpected surprise. As well, in the summer this is the base camp for the fire bombers, there was a P-2, Agcats and Hueys on the ramp. This was a very interesting stop for us.
