Landed CEK after a 6-hour journey from Albuquerque in a Cessna 170. Owner seemed a little gruff at first, but warmed up soon enough. Gave me a great crew car (government white Crown Vic with a searchlight) and had plenty of current charts available - Nice prairie town built around a grain elevator.

Not the friendliest staff I've seen, and the fuel was a bit high for the area. High winds most the time.

CEK has been a regular stop for me since 2003 because of good prices and service.

Stopped in here at 1920 local on a Thursday, since they're supposedly open until 2000 hours. No one was around that we could find, but the courtesy car was available. We left them a note, and drove into town in search of supper. When we returned at 1957 local, the note was gone, and the place was locked down. We left them another note, and headed with the courtesy car to a local motel. When we returned at 0630 the next morning, they weren't there yet, but arrived shortly thereafter. That's when we met Pat, the FBO owner. Nice fellow! He sold us fuel, told us that he had gotten the notes we had left, and all was OK. When flying in to CEK, be sure to say hi to the mammal that runs the whole place, the FBO kitty. He loves the attention!!

I make Crete my home airport even though I live and hangar in Lincoln. I'm not alone in this. For me, it started with the question "who would I want to do a pre-buy inspection?" Pat. Then, "who would I want working on my plane?" Came up with the same answer. Pat. Since buying out my partner, I try not to have work done anywhere else. And, they usually have car gas. My plane has a car gas STC.
