Decided not to press on to St. Augustine because of wx. They were very helpful, got us a car and got us going. Even though this is a major airport, the ramp fees weren't too hard to take, and the gas was about average. Very helpful.

Stayed with SheltAir for over two weeks and they met all of our needs and more. Crew cars, great TV rooms, nice facilities. Only complaint computers in planning room don't allow connection to company network and the USB ports are locked not allowing printing company maps making a slight annoyance. Central location is convenient from any runway, just watch for the construction area immediately next door.

We arrived late on March 3rd and broke down while pulling into the parking space. SheltAir went out of their way to assist us with a rental car and accommodations. They also arranged for Daytona Aircraft Services to come in on a Sunday morning to check it over. Their facilities and staff are top notch and cookies were nice also! Tie down for 1 night was $20 for a light twin.

Have been to Sheltair (old Jetcenter) quite a few times: twice since the remodeling project. The facilities are awesome and the service both times was excellent (they got me a discounted room at the Hilton and gave me a ride there). Fuel and parking not cheap, but for the convenience, service, and facilities certainly worth the extra. Last visit was 1/3/07 in our Columbia 400----treated like I was in a bizjet.

In the course of business, we have frequented FBO's from one end of Florida to the other including the Panhandle. We fly single engine Cessna aircraft, so we don't expect much fanfare when we pull up in front of an FBO's establishment. On 11/28/06, we flew into KDAB and taxied over to SheltAir Aviation. We never would have expected the "red carpet" treatment, but that is just what we received. I don't think we have ever received this level of excellence in service anywhere in the State. It did not go unnoticed, and we will be back for sure.

We went to Sheltair due to its location close to the Main Terminal and the Speedway. On their ramp we were ignored until we found a parking space and were shut down and tied down. One of their reps told us we needed to move to another spot closer to their office. We fired up and moved again then another lineman came out and told us we needed to move again to the rear of their building. This time they towed us. It wasn't even a busy day! They don't seem to want GA business with an avgas price of $5.70 (50 cent discount with top off-- be sure to ask for it) Stayed 2 nights with a 12 dollar/night charge. Nothing waived for fill up. At these prices they need to take a lesson on customer service.
Response from Michael Lerma, Operations Manager- SheltAir DAB Mr. and Mrs. Friedman, I believe confusion on our part is the root of your poor perception of our service. When you arrived on our ramp in your 172 you parked in a flight school parking spot at the far end of our ramp. Our line service department incorrectly assumed your aircraft belonged to Phoenix East Aviation; which is a flight school that operates a fleet of 172s and parks themselves. Our concierge then offered to have a line tech tow the aircraft to an overnight tie-down spot witch you declined. Our concierge then directed you towards our reception line as it is close to our facility and ground transportation; this is standard practice as we receive all arriving aircraft on our reception line. I can understand the frustration and inconvenience but our concern was for your convenience and the safety of the aircraft. We will wave the overnight parking fees you were charged and hope to see you again.

We had a great Sheltair experience. The line crew escorted the passenger's limo to the ramp, our rental car was quickly right behind it. On departure got everything we expected. This is a great FBO!

For those who are disappointed with service during race weeks and weekends, don't forget the 4 other airports in the Daytona area: Deland, Flagler, Ormond, and New Smyrna Beach. The difference in service and waiting 45 minutes to depart might be worth the 15-minute drive. Just a thought. I've had good service at Deland and New Smyrna Beach several times.
Response from Joe Ribaudo, Marketing Coordinator, SheltAir Aviation Services Daytona Beach Dear Mr. Forster, I am disappointed to hear that you experienced bad service (or heard of someone who did) during one of our race events. While we strive for 100% customer satisfaction year round, it goes without saying that these events create our busiest seasons of the year. We have an impeccable safety record for these events while moving many passengers, flight crews and aircraft (up to 450 aircraft the day of the Daytona 500) in a timely manner. Also, you are correct that there are alternate airports in the area that may be reached in 20 minutes or so. However, during Speed Weeks, it might take hours as normal roads are sometimes shut down or become one-way to control the extra 200,000 people in our small city. The good news is-our facility is only a 5-10 minute walk from the speedway. Feel free to contact any member of our staff or myself if you have a concern, complaint or suggestion. Stopped here last week and parked my C-172 for a couple of nights. They just relocated into a new facility that is first class. A bit more costly then some other FBOs but I enjoyed the convenience of being able to walk to the main terminal. Free cookies and popcorn!

What fantastic work they do!! I was in a little old 172, but I can happily say I was treated just the same as everyone else!!! Everyone from the initial approach controller, to the girls at the desk (especially my little Kiwi Amanda), to the final departure controllers all did a fantastic job of making you welcome and getting you in and out safely given the weather!! I look forward to doing it again next year, all being well!
Response from Michael Lerma, Operations Manager, SheltAir Aviation Services Daytona Beach Dear Mr. Donaldson, We appreciate your kind remarks in regards to our service. We pride ourselves on providing the highest levels of service in the industry and are willing to go the extra mile for any customer irregardless of the type of aircraft they fly. I'm happy to hear you had a pleasant experience with us here in Daytona; I'd like to point out that we have a network of FBO facilities where you will find the same great service. JAX, PIE, ORL, FALL, MIA, LGA, and TJIG are all current SheltAir locations with more to come in the near future. Hope to see you again soon!

Daytona 500 race day I had a flat tire while taxing out to the runway after the race. This self proclaimed premier FBO does not have a single mechanic to fix a flat tire. Next day they charged me over 400 dollars to replace the tire. (B58 Baron) If you want an FBO that can get you a bag of ice this place is for you otherwise try the other FBO on the field
Response from Michael Lerma, Operations Manager, SheltAir Aviation Services Daytona Beach Dear Mr. Dugas, I must point out that SheltAir Aviation Services does not operate an FAA repair station at any of our locations. Given the time of day that your situation occured, you would have had trouble at any FBO finding a mechanic at 10:00PM on a Sunday. If you recall I assisted you personally and was able to locate a tube for your aircraft from another vendor who was willing to stay open late. We made every effort to the extent of our abilities to assist you but unfortunately this did not yield your desired results. I empathize with your situation but unfortunately your maintenance needs were beyond the scope of our service. As for the charge for the repair, that is an issue to bring to the attention of Daytona Aircraft Services, as we are two completely separate entities. I hope you will have the opportunity to visit one of our Sheltair FBOs under different circumstances.

Tammy and the staff at SheltAir were terrific. Arrived in an SR22 and was allowed use of an Expedition courtesy car for our meeting. Thunderstorms arrived shortly before departure which left us waiting at the facility for about 2 hours. If you're going to be socked in with weather, this is the place to be. Very nice passenger waiting area and the pilot's lounge features leather recliners, weather planning and a big screen TV. Definitely a top notch facility.

I agree with Kevin...you can't force people to pay for your price gouging $5.80 per gallon fuel. Why is fuel $2.50 less at OMN, just a few miles away? The facility is poor, the parking fee is outrageous, stay away.

I usually check AirNav before flying to an FBO to get a feel for what's going on. Needed to go to DAB to pick up a passenger very quickly; no parking, fuel or any other services required. Called ahead to the Jet Center who told me there would be a $30 handling charge (for what?) unless I bought 25 gallons of fuel. Coming from MLB, I don't think I'll need any.
