Flew to Del Rio to clear customs after return from Monterrey, Mexico. Very good experience overall. Make sure you call Del Rio the required amount of time ahead of arrival, because they don't staff fulltime at the airport - they have to drive over from border. The customs personnel who met us at the plane in 'the box' and did a quick but professional search of the plane (mainly using a geiger counter.. Hmmm). Then we followed them into the office where it did take longer than necessary because they were apparently doing training for a new guy and we were the training material. While they finished up, they allowed us to get the plane fueled. The Pico guy was SUPER helpful and efficient. Even gave me bag of ice and some cups to take in my little Skymaster to keep cool. Very much appreciated his level of service and great attitude. Thanks!

Flew in today from KSAT. "Follow Me" golf cart met us on the ramp and guided us to a parking spot. Lineman placed our chocks and gave us a ride to their courtesy car so we could go into town and grab a bite to eat. Very interesting approach to KDRT. Approach instructed us to stay 5 miles west of Laughlin AFB and clear of the Rio Grande River on the left. Very tight approach. Same deal on departure with the addition of a immediate 360 degree climb to 4, 000 ft on takeoff then tracking out 5 miles west of Laughlin AFB and clear of the River. Heavy T-6 traffic in the area. Thanks again to the Pico staff.

Stopped for fuel after hours. Self-serve 100LL pump worked fine but when finished fueling the hose would not auto retract like normal. I had to wheel in the hose manually it was a hassle. Runway has a gradient which is noticeable, nice airport overall though.

We flew to Del Rio from Florida to prepare to fly up the Pecos River through its canyons in early May. We landed and were immediately greeted by two of the nicest line boys we've ever met. They provided us with a courtesy car to go get some real Mexican food and a place to stay. Del Rio is a nice little town. Across the river is Cuidad Acuñna, which is a small but safe border town. Upstream is Lake Amistad, and we crossed over the dam to the Mexican side. It was an easy crossing both ways, and on the Mexican side is a giant statue of Tlaloc, the Aztec god of rain. It was pretty cool. For being out in the middle of nowhere, Del Rio, Texas sure is a fun town to visit!

Excellent visit at DRT. Dropped in late in the afternoon for fuel and an overnight stay after a long day of flying. The FBO staff is very courteous. Great place to spend the night, too.
