About Cutter Aviation Founded in 1928, Cutter Aviation is one of the country's oldest general aviation service companies. It has operations at six major airports in Arizona (Deer Valley and Phoenix), New Mexico (Albuquerque) and Texas (Dallas, El Paso and San Antonio). In addition to providing services to transient aircraft, Cutter sells, services and maintains business and privately owned aircraft. The company also provides charter and aircraft management services and operates a full-service travel agency. The Phoenix, Deer Valley, Albuquerque, and Dallas facilities are full-service, fixed-base operations, with El Paso providing line services for transient aircraft. San Antonio provides aircraft and parts sales as well as maintenance.
Looking Back Continuously family-owned for seven decades, the company originated as Cutter Flying Service Inc., in Albuquerque. William P. Cutter envisioned a business that would serve the fledgling aviation community - and the resulting enterprise exceeded his expectations. The company survived the Great Depression, and, at the outbreak of World War II, became major pilot training facility for the military. In 1947, the company began its long-standing affiliation with Beech Aircraft Corporation. From the time the first Beechcraft airplane was delivered, the Cutter name became-and continues to be-synonymous with Beechcraft, a Raytheon company. In fact today, Cutter's Dallas facility is the newest authorized Raytheon service center in the Western United States.
Looking Ahead Over the years, Cutter has maintained a position of leadership in the general aviation community by consistently expanding its services and its locations. Cutter Aviation, Inc., opened its Phoenix operation in 1959. The El Paso facility opened in 1982, Deer Valley followed in 1997, San Antonio in 1998, and Dallas in 2002. Today, a significant ramp expansion project is under way in Phoenix, where two large corporate hangars are being added. Additionally, a new facility is being constructed in El Paso and is due to be completed before year-end. What's more, Cutter closed out 2004 on a high note, booking its best year ever.
Family Values Company President Will Cutter says Cutter's success is due, in large part, to its ongoing emphasis on the core values of Respect, Trust and Integrity. "These are key ingredients to a formula that has kept us at the forefront of the industry," Cutter notes. "They have helped us establish a reputation that we are all proud of. These values have served us well for 78 years, and without them, Cutter would be just another run-of-the-mill service station for airplanes."

Just returned from 2 nights in Deer Valley. Cutter took great care of me - no overnight ramp fee with 35 gals of fuel. Cart service to and from the FBO - nice people.

Spent four days tied at Deer Valley while at a conference. Very nice FBO. My rental car was waiting and the plane was fueled when I returned. Connie was very helpful and the fuel price reasonable. I was not charged a ramp or overnight fee with my 60 gallons for my 182. Be careful of multiple balloons just Northwest of the airport.

Flew into Deer Valley earlier this week for the day and parked at Cutter. They gave me a ride to my event that was nearby and picked me up later. They topped-off the plane and there were no other charges. They have wireless internet inside. I was happy with how I was treated.

Stopped at DVT over Thanksgiving weekend. I used Westwind (Atlantic) Aviation since their fuel price was $1 less than Cutter. Linemen at Westwind were very efficient and professional. Great service - we'll be back.

Up until recently, I have been in and out of Cutter DVT for years. It seems the last few months that decreasing level of service hasn't kept up with the ever-increasing cost. It's understandable that they have a fueling contract with the local flight school (Pan Am) and they are a primary customer. If you need fuel, make sure to call one hour in advance or be prepared for the wait. As for maintenance, that's out of the question if you own anything other than a Beechcraft or Piper. Anything more than 15 years old is also part of this exclusion. For a company that has been "a leader in aviation for 70 years" it’s a wonder what is keeping them going. Most importantly, what will keep them going for the next?

I recently lost my spinner while flying at night over Lake Pleasant and made a precautionary landing at Deer Valley. Even though it was well after 9PM the two A&P's that were getting ready to close up at the Cutter hangar not only loaned me a few basic tools but actually pitched in with helping me remove the "residual spinner parts" and check things out for damage. After all was said and done, they not only didn't charge me, but even refused some "beer money". This was above and beyond the call of duty and got me back to my home base in Glendale by midnight when I could have been stuck for hours trying to find tools or, at worst, a taxi ride home. A great bunch of employees and "good flyin people"!!

What is the deal with DVT fuel pricing recently ($4.94 today Cutter)? There seems to be a bit of the Scottsdale ($4.94) thing going on here. Check any other nearby airport and you will see significantly lower pricing (i.e. Buckeye $3.88, Chandler $3.75, Falcon $3.90). In more down to earth terms, fill up your 172 at Chandler and get a free thirty-two dollar bill. Heck, even the traditional higher priced places like Payson ($4.19) and Sedona ($4.35) are actually better than home. Given that DVT has very easy access to fuel, has distribution channels that have other sources of income besides fuel, and pushes a large quantity of fuel daily, how in the heck can these prices be ***justified***? Better watch out, the rumored Scottsdale $50 ramp fee could be just around the corner.

Landed at KDVT just after midnight. Taxied into Cutter parking area, and began to tie down. Was met about five minutes later by a line crewman who checked into local hotels, and when none was available, let us uses their new crew bunkroom overnight. Plane was immediately refueled even at the late hour. New weather/computer station top-rate, and day crew rest lounge is very comfortable. Top-rate FBO.

Spent a week in Febuary with my aircraft at Cutter Aviation while taking recurrent training. The line and front office were friendly. Fuel was expensive and I purchase several hundred gallons of Jet A. The bad news is their maintenance. Their service department replaced my main tires but did not put new tubes in. Was told they never do. Leaking tires and/or tubes was the reason I ordered the new tires. Also, I had a altimeter problem and was informed by service manager that they had a radio shop at FBO so instead of using Avionics shop across the field, waited till next day, only to find out Cutter did not have a avonics shop at field and they were unable to bench check altimeter. They did have a visiting tech. When discussed problems with Mr Cutter he indicated he would call back. Still waiting for call. They did cash my check. All I can say is overpriced and not reliable. Will not go back.

Very helpful and courteous people. Prompt and excellent service. I phoned ahead to check fuel prices and they gave me the discount rate (for aircraft based at KDVT) even though I was just passing through! I'll definitely be visiting Cutter again!
