Flew into Tipton in my Centurion with a bunch of buddies last weekend. A+ experience. Curtis at the front desk was very helpful. Waived the overnight parking fee with gas purchase, which is the lowest in the area. Very nice planning lounge with weather computer and a binder containing specific details about ADIZ procedures, phone numbers for getting clearances, etc. The Enterprise car rental location that serves Tipton is very good as well - car was there waiting for me and it took 30 seconds to sign all the paperwork and get out the door. Just call the airport and they'll give you the number. Will be back soon!

Great place to stop near DC or Baltimore. Rental car available at FBO and price of gas reasonable. No real hassle with ADIZ, as we were IFR. Even VFR it seems fairly simple.

Apparently, with the redesigned ADIZ, there are now more phone lines to enable obtaining clearances from Potomac approach. The number to call from FME is 866-429-5882.

Unless an ILS is required, it is not worth the cost to fly into BWI. Tie down was $10/night and first night was waived with the 32 gallons of fuel purchased (at a competitive rate of $4.15/gal). Rental car wasn't there at arrival since I was 45min. early. Friendly service overall. On an IFR flight plan (VFR conditions) approaching from the East; Potomac vectored traffic to ANP then FME for sequencing/separation from BWI arrivals. Upon departure, Potomac requested a cell phone call (instead of clnc void time) with engine running prior to IFR release...Could waste time if the line is busy.

Pilot lounge and pre-flight facility now open 24 hours! It includes PC, phones, vending and rest rooms. Make sure you note the gate access code on the way out for your return. Maryland Rail Commuter train (MARC) from the Odenton station 2 miles away is still the best way to DC or Baltimore.

This airport is steadily getting discovered by pilots from surrounding fields. It's a field with a nice, smooth, 3000' foot runway, reasonably priced self-serve fuel, and plentiful tiedown space. The airport managers are truly working hard to correct any issues that come up, which is a refreshing change from surrounding fields. The biggest thing missing is a GCO to get an ADIZ code out from Potomac. When picking up an ADIZ or IFR clearance (one of the two required on any flight), I get busy signals more often than not, on Potomac's single overloaded phone line that serves about 10 airports in this sector. Also beware, the local flight school encourages their students to fly VERY wide patterns over the trees. I hope they, or anyone behind them, never have a true engine out situation.
