The "rude" fellow has retired and the remaining owner/operators are bending over backwards to repair whatever ill-will the former had engendered. This is a wonderful airport in a beautiful setting.

This is a great little airport tucked in the hills of western MA with a restored Waco & Cub in the pattern, the relaxed setting and friendly staff, it felt like a throwback in time. My wife & I took a cab into town ($6 pp each way - the crew car was spoken for) for lunch (plenty of choices), a little shopping & a walk along the RiverWalk. But I'd come back just to sit at the airport on a nice summer day.

A pilot friend and I landed there on a whim on the most beautiful autumn day imaginable, something out of a Norman Rockwell painting, whose museum--incidentally--is near Great Barrington. We had just eaten lunch at Columbia County, NY (1B1), and traditionally go to a second airport for dessert. I asked if the town could be reached by foot, and the manager handed me the keys to the courtesy vehicle. We left a donation with the keys. The airport is a wonderful mix of yesteryear's taildraggers and yesterday's composites. We loved it.

We put down here because of weather today and I cannot say enough good things about these folks. This airport was older, but clean, well kept, and exceedingly friendly. Folks have commented on some "surly fellow", and we may have met him, but I would say he was a friendly curmudgeon who gave me a chuckle. :-) The rest of the folks were as helpful as could be, pulling up weather info on the computer, discussing alternate routes to our destination in central Maine, even lending us a crew car to get some lunch downtown. What we were looking for was "shelter from the storm." What we found was a destination we hope to return to some day. This is in the heart of the Berkshires with lots of great places to visit. Our heartfelt thanks to you folks at Great Barrington. - Cheers,

I see that several people have commented on the 'rude" individual at the airport. That's Ed. He may have mental problems. Everyone else is very nice, and Ed can be nice to, when he wants to be. Trouble is, he's likely to greet a stranger with outright, inappropriate hostility. Very weird. The other owners shouldn't let him interact with the public. Other than that, it's a fabulous place.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to KGBR. People were very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. Service provided was top notch. I look forward to returning.

I've been to this airport many times and think it is well worth the trip. Most of the people working at the FBO are very nice. There is one surly fellow but if you can overlook his bad attitude, this is one of the best places to visit in the Northeast. The courtesy car is first come, first serve and a donation of $5 - $10 is appreciated. I put $15 of gas in it once and that was not appreciated...Just stick to the donation.
