My wife and I stopped by -- in a car, not our plane, because we couldn't reserve a rental car in John Day, so we flew into Baker City instead. Anyhow, the manager showed us around the new facility, which is spotless, sparkling, and equal to if not better than the nicest FBOs around the country (Signature, AirFlite at Long Beach, etc.) They have pilot showers, a crew rest area with two beds, a large crew lounge and flight planning area, coffee and sandwiches during the week, and three courtesy cars. Unfortunately, we could not find any way to get into the building on a Sunday, which makes me wonder how we would have departed on Sunday if we'd flown in. But this facility is great, and next time we'll try to stop here instead of Baker City.

Arrived at Grant County Airport on 18 Aug 11...Our first visit. My wife and I were very impressed by the well maintained facility. The terminal building is less than a year old and is really impressive. If you're ever stuck there due to WX or something else, they have beds and showers. They normally have 3 crew cars; however, all 3 were out that morning so we were stuck at the airport. They have a small sandwich shop in the terminal building, so we decided to eat there. The ladies there made a couple of fantastic sandwiches so all was not lost. We'll be back but we'll call about the cars right before we leave. There appears to be public transportation to and from the airport into town, but the manager did not mention anything about it to us.Response from Colin English, Airport Manager, Grant County Regional Airport There are no public transportation services in Grant County available serving the airport on a scheduled basis. We have three courtesy cars and this satisfies the need 99% of the time. However, they are first come first serve. The keys are available in the pilot lounge, which is open at all times to pilots and passengers. Myself and airport staff are also available to drive visitors into town using our personal vehicles if needed during regular operating hours. We welcome calls anytime for more information. My cell phone is 206-327-5980. Thanks and happy flying!

We stayed overnight Friday to Saturday and had a wonderful time. The airport lent us a courtesy car, which meant we could stay overnight at Sonshine Bed & Breakfast (very highly recommended!!) and then visit the Sheep Rock fossil beds Saturday. We had planned a visit to Kam Wah Chung Museum Saturday afternoon but ran into a timing issue so we will have to return. We ended up at John Day airport as a mid point overnight stop from Glacier Park to SF Bay area but I now think it's a great two or three day destination. The people working at the airport are super nice and helpful! Due to heat, we spent at least 3 hours total at the airport hanging out reserving the B&B and flight planning.
