From Thomas Butz on 15-Dec-2011

I have flown into the UAC on numerous occasions, usually the service is good. My big complaint is the total rip off for the "handling" charge. I landed there on 12/13/2011, taxied to the ramp, was directed in to a spot with no tie downs, and my plane, a Piper Malibu Meridian was not touched by anyone other than me. I was shocked when one hour later getting ready for departure the desk girl told me that I owed them 75.00 for the handling! I had been in there a few weeks earlier and was not charged anything. I was in Chicago at Midway back in Sept and was only charged 50.00 a day for storage with handling. UAC is a rip off

Response from Shanon Spears, Operations Manager, University Air Center
Mr. Butz, when your aircraft arrived you were promptly met by a line technician and your aircraft was parked on the #1 spot on the front line. You were chocked and a carpet was placed at your a/c door. During your stay you stated that you did not need fuel, in that case FBO's will charge a handling fee. Our customer service representative informed you upon your arrival that this fee would be charged upon departure. FBO's have to cover our overhead expenses of our facilities, employee costs, and other services we provide as needed. If we do not charge a handling fee when a customer doesn't buy gas then FBO's will go out of business. You were correct when you said you had been here recently, and when you were here you did pay the fee at that time. We hope to see you again soon, and feel free to ask for me personally.

First off when I checked fuel prices on AirNav as of 28 or 29 November they were reported as $5.36 full service. When I had the plane topped off it was $5.36/gal PLUS $3.43 AFET tax on 17.7 gallons. (I have my receipt.) Secondly my wife is on oxygen and is difficult for her to walk. There were four people behind the counter two linemen and two women. I asked where I would find my plane and one of the linemen gestured in the southwest direction and said out there. I walked to the far end of the second row and could not find the plane. I went back to the FBO office and got a third lineman to take me out, in one of the four golf carts sitting next to the door, and we found my plane at the very last parking space on the back side of the third row with absolutely no light save the star light. Then the lineman never offered to help untie the plane. I rented a car and topped off what more should I have DONE?

This FBO is an example of what happens to aircraft owners or operators when there is no competition at an airport that is near a major city, or, site. Their prices are way out of order and that is why we use X-60 just a few miles away. Fuel is about 25% less, no fees etc. If they keep up their practice of charging high prices and accessorial charges they will be part of the past

$120.00 for light jet handling/ramp fee or 120Gal. Additional $25.00 overnight parking fee. Returned two days later for pax drop-off charged $120.00 for five minutes on the ramp.

From Harold Hoodwin on 26-May-2011

Nice Facility with good flight planning room. Was greeted on the ramp. Courteous personnel. Took my top-off fuel order for my 172. Fuel price was decent. Wasn't charged a ramp fee for the night. Overall, not bad.

Diverted here on our trip to Sun n Fun due to the weather that wrecked the planes and closed the LAL airport. We were not alone in Gainesville, so the staff here was handling an unusual surge in customers trying to get them rooms and transportation. We had to wait in line, but the staff was very friendly and as helpful as they could be.

From Ryan Ferguson on 19-Feb-2011

We've been in many times. The folks here are friendly and have the best of intentions but they're not staffed or truly equipped to provide the kind of service that business jet customers need and expect. We've also been kicked out of the crew lounge. (????) But the real issue is that they drop the ball pretty regularly. Better double and triple check any of your passengers' needs, particularly rental car.

Returned to Gainesville on 11/21/10. I asked about the extra charge from last time. The lady at the counter said she'd check into it. When we returned, she said there was no record of any credit on my account under either my name or my tail number. I'll check my bill a bit more carefully on future visits to University Air, and make a point of addressing any unexpected (unexplained) extra charges when they hand me the bill.

Flew in for a quick top off in a C-172 and received great service! I was promptly met with the "follow-me" golf cart and directed to parking. The line guys shuttled me to the FBO and the receptionists were very friendly. Nice facilities and decent fuel prices. Will definitely be back! GNV is a nice and friendly airport.

Heads up light twin drivers: Arrived Friday evening (8/27/10 1730), parked in a tie-down spot to avoid having to be repositioned from the front parking area (chalked and tied myself down). Came out on Sunday afternoon to preflight and fuel at the self-service pumps ($325.12), departed Monday morning at 2AM. Got charged $65.00 -parking. I called, they said since I bought fuel, I wasn't charged a "facility fee". The lady I spoke with is going to look into the source of the $5.00 additional charge. (Aircraft was a light twin (Aerostar). I fly to Gainesville 4-5 times a year, the ladies at the counter are always pleasant, the line men, are friendly and helpful and the facility is the only one at KGNV, so I won't complain about being gouged a little for parking, however given the choice I'd rather pay for full service fuel and be allowed to park for free. Next time I'm visiting Gainesville, I'll ask. If I can remember.

It is great to see that UAC is now posting fuel prices at the SS pump. No more surprises! Thank you!

From Bob Williams on 20-Jul-2010

The flight instructors asked the pilots to leave the pilot's lounge so they could have their weekly meeting. Asked if we would go sleep in the lobby, never mind the 4 a. M. show we had had that morning. Bull!! GPU cost $60 for 30 min. What did I pay the $75 facility fee for??? Will discourage our customers and anyone else from coming here again.

We flew into GNV for the first time this past weekend and were met immediately by a lineman (Benny) in his golf cart directing us to our tiedown. He provided cold water for each of us, as it was 100 degrees outside. Helped unload our bags and was very helpful overall. Nice Job Benny! Inside we were logged in for the two-night stay and found the desk girls (Julie and Casey) very cooperative and efficient to our needs. Thanks girls! We will definitely be back when the weather cools down. Fuel is fairly priced and they waived the tiedown when we topped off the tanks. As good an FBO as any IMHO

From Bruce Welt on 25-Apr-2010

Word of caution...UAC does not update fuel prices on AirNav and they don't post the price by the SS pump. Expect to be surprised. Aviation doesn't need surprises.

We landed here on 4/6/10 in our Cherokee 235. Pulled up to the terminal and met by a line guy with a radio. Told him that we needed a quick turn and fuel, but he told us we had to go inside to see the desk clerk. Why the radio? Inside we had to wait for service while a phone call was completed. Service was okay, but did not match the great facilities.

On 2/22/10 we landed at GNV in a Cirrus SR22 to wait out a weather front. University Air was a most helpful host, and their Cirrus Service Center representatives were exceptionally professional in providing help with an emerging avionics issue. Great ramp service, comfortable on site accommodations, and a great attitude. I will stop here again.

Recently (2/26/2010) flew a Piper Arrow in for a weekend of diving. Pulled in to the FBO area and saw no one. Waited and finally saw a guy jump from the fuel truck and directed us in to a spot with no tie downs and chocks sitting in the way. I stopped short and he drove off. Couldn't see where to go and walked in the maintenance hangar and was directed 75 yards away to the terminal with no markings. We had a car reserved through Hertz but they didn't deliver as promised to the FBO until FBO called. Had dive gear and were able to pull on the field to unload after asking. Line guys and desk lady weren't very helpful. Parking in front of the terminal was hidden and reserved for the big guys. Hoped for better service when leaving on 2/28/2010 but about the same. Didn't seem to get any tie down break for buying gas. Not impressed!

Landed at midnight on Christmas Eve as the headwinds were so strong that our destination was out of reach. Found the self-service pump - great price. Refueled - and cranked the right engine as the starter smoked! Dead at GNV on Christmas Eve. From that point on - I have nothing but raves about UAC. The line person (open 24 hours/day) found us a Hertz rental at 1am on Christmas morning. We packed into a Kia Rio looking like the clown act at a circus. No maintenance until Monday morning. Monday UAC maintenance pulled the starter and agreed it was bad. We had one overnighted - and they had it in Tuesday evening for 2.3 hours of labor total. That is a good number for an Aztec cowling! Hats off to UAC Maintenance. One word of caution - the cost of the rental car. The daily rate was $46 - however, there is almost a 50% tax on that including a 28% Concession Recovery Fee. If I ever have to get stranded again by my airplane or want reasonable fuel and good service - GNV is the spot to choose.

Visited University Air Center for a football game, and had a minor transportation issue. Cheryl, (an HR specialist for UAC I believe), overheard the conversation and quickly took care of it. Later, when departing, we had excellent service from Bennie, and another lineman (I missed your name, sorry). Thanks for the help, all three of you!

From Andreas Iwanowski, N17386 on 06-Nov-2009

As before, it's a pleasant experience coming to GNV due to the 24hr service. Facilities are clean and most amenities are available. Fine FBO.

From Jim Russell on 25-Oct-2009

I have been going into gainesville for 30 years and they have always had great service. UAC is one of the best FBO's around. Fuel and fees are fair. It is not Galaxy so if you like getting screwed you're out of luck at UAC. Other than having to step over a few gators to get to the desk it is fantastic. There will always be whiners especially the more expensive airplane owners.

From Brenden Curcio on 18-Oct-2009

In for the game and UAC did a great job handling our 182. We parked on the east ramp and they had a courtesy van ready and waiting upon shutdown to take us to the main building. After the game same thing they were ready and waiting. Well worth the $20 gameday handling fee. We took no fuel.

From Bruce Welt on 23-Sep-2009

Why is UAC unable to maintain current fuel pricing on AirNav? Why doesn't UAC guarantee prices posted on AirNav like most other FBO's? Also, why doesn't UAC at least provide a sign showing fuel prices at the self-fueler? Why must we wait to see the receipt before learning the price of fuel? Pilots don't need surprises when buying fuel. I know I don't.

From Scott Allen on 23-Sep-2009

We arrived at UAC GNV Friday before a game. It was not busy. I told the line guy to top off the outboards on the way to the FBO. By the time I got there the truck was in front of our King Air. I was happy to see that because I had a sick pax that just wanted to go home as fast as possible. I heard over the radio in the FBO a call for a refueling that I correctly surmised was a local aircraft. Off went the fuel truck without refueling us first, even though we were way ahead of that call. When I questioned the desk attendant she stated they needed a form of payment prior to refueling. Poor excuse. Her attitude was not professional to boot. I would imagine she has never "not" been paid by a King Air customer. So 30 minutes later we had our fuel. Very disappointing as I've had good service in the past. I wish they had some competition there.

From Jon Wehrenberg on 02-Apr-2009

I have been to GNV on many occasions often doing animal rescue flights. The service had always been good on this particular day it was raining and a low overcast. Nothing was going on and I had dogs to unload and other dogs awaiting my arrival to load. All I wanted was a quick turnaround. The folks decided I needed to be parked in a tie down about 500 feet from the end of the canopy even though they knew I wanted a quick turnaround. The dumb excuse is "we have procedures". So I walked the 500 feet in the rain in both directions several times as a result of the procedures.
