Great airport! Nice new runway, friendly people, great facilities, even better fuel prices.

From E.D. Atkins on 21-Jul-2011

I've never had FBO personnel go so far out of their way to accommodate. Arrived July 9th for a week in San Antonio. Decided on Hondo when Lisa said she would put us in a T-hangar telling me "Tim usually won't charge" for the hangar!! Then, when Enterprise couldn't/wouldn't accommodate a weekend arrival, Tim called his pilot friend at the local Cecil Ford dealership and acquired a car for us! The FBO is beautiful, the 7, 100, 000 sq ft of ramp/taxi/runway is almost empty, fuel is cheap. Keeping the Baron out of a week's worth of Texas mid-summer heat was all I was hoping for...Never expected the outrageously VIP treatment we received from the fantastic people at Hondo.

Low fuel price, clean restroom, snack machines, flight planning computer, and friendly staff. What more could you ask?

Response from Timothy D. Fousse, Director of Public Works and Aviation, Hondo Municipal Airpor
Chase - it was nice meeting you and we sincerely appreciate the kind words. We are trying very hard to keep our fuel prices low and competitive, and having a good volume helps a great deal. We look forward to your visiting again, and if you are in the area on Saturday May 21, stop in for our C.A.F. Tex Hill Wing Armed Forces Day Fly-in.

Stopped at Hondo to fuel up Dec 30, 2010. Loved the folks and the gas prices. Will stop by next time we're in the area.

From Ed Livermore Jr. on 29-Jun-2010

Hondo has one of the best self-fueling systems I have seen anywhere. First rate. Prices are also attractive.

Response from Timothy D. Fousse, Director - Public Works and Aviation, Hondo Municipal Airpor
Thanks, Ed for the positive comments on our airport. We continue to do our best to keep our prices as low as possible. Our new runway - 17L-35R - will be opening in July. All concrete 6000+ feet, PAPI 4's, and new WAAS approaches. Hope to see you very soon.

Terrible NOTAM inputs for this field. Planned night cross country here. NOTAMS showed 3 of 5 runways closed and parachuting going on. What they should have said is that the field was closed to non-night vision goggle military parachuting aircraft. No airfield lights. None of that was in the NOTAMS. We won't waste our time trying to go here again.

Response from Timothy D. Fousse, Director of Public Works and Aviation, Hondo Municipal Airpor
Craig, I am sorry for your less than acceptable experience. HDO has 3 of 5 runways closed due to construction on 17L/35R. A full set of NOTAMS were issued in Dec., including runway closures and no runway lights available due to construction. The airport has EMS helo ops based on it, requiring us to remain open at night with no lights. We also issued NOTAMS for Military Training-Parachute ops for the date in question-ending 3-14-10. We are supporting a Marine Expeditionary unit training for an overseas mission on a "one time" basis. We strive to give the greatest amount of information possible at all times regarding our airport. We petitioned the FAA to allow us to place runway conditions/closures on our ASOS broadcast - our request was denied. We were told runway info is only available on an ATIS broadcast, which we do not have. We hope you will reconsider our airport in the future, the closed runways will reopen June 26, 2010. Hope to see you soon.

Visited Hondo over the weekend, fuel prices are great and the equipment is easy to use! Be sure to get NOTAM's or call airport before departing, as several runways are under construction and are closed. New terminal building is great and available after hours. Coffee and snacks were available in the break room. Great airport to visit....

From Foster Bachschmidt on 05-Sep-2009

Spent a few nights on the ramp, while preparing to leave on Monday morning, was unable to find anyone to fuel the airplane (C208B Grand Caravan) with self serve not being a fun option in the big girl, we decided to head elsewhere for fuel. Though we could not get in, the facilities looked very nice from the outside, and the ramp was more than accommodating for my big bird, we left it out in front all weekend with no comments or concerns!

Response from Timothy D. Fousse, Director of Public Works and Aviation
Foster, Sorry we missed you. After hours full service JetA fuel is available at no additional charge - 24 hours - we just need a heads-up call to be sure we can provide the services you require. We staff the airport offices Monday through Friday, 8:00am through 5:00pm - but we may all be out on the property at any given time. The building can be accessed 24 hours a day - just follow the directions on the front door for after hours access. We hope you will consider visiting Hondo again in the future. Thanks again for using our airport. Timothy D. Fousse - Director Public Works and Aviation 2009 Texas General Aviation Airport of the Year

During my recent business trip I arrived after hours and refueled at their new fueling facility (cheap prices). I found the facilities: new, clean, and well maintained. This includes restroom and showers. We tied down under covered parking for 2 nights. While preparing for departure the airport manager and staff were very accommodating. We will definitely use HDO in the future.
