Anyone flying to HIE this winter, beware. The runway is covered in ice and packed snow. It is VERY slippery. Watch the NOTAMS for runway conditions and if you land with a cross wind, be VERY careful.

Great FBO building, and built by locals with great pride. Good job guys - I love the touches in the rafter beams. Game for new pilot arrivals, what detail did you see? FBO was vacant on our arrival. Instrument approach from the west leaves you kinda high, plan on go around or circle to land, visibility permitting.

Although nobody was home the Airport Shack was open with bathroom and coffee. Fuel is reasonable.

We flew into HIE Saturday 7/11 for a wedding at Mt Washington Hotel. The facility is nice, and convenient to our destination. The local Ford dealer dropped off a rental Taurus at the airport for us, and the weekend went off without a hitch. Fortunately we were able to make the trip VFR as the NDB and localizer on the field are out of service.
