This is a follow-up to my Dec 23, 2010 post. BEWARE! I just found out the Lewiston-Auburn Municipal Airport charges a $15.00 Landing Fee, and $15.00/Night for parking (even if the plane is hangared). I talked with the airport manager (207-786-0631), he said that they charge a $15.00 landing fee for any aircraft (private or commercial) for any aircraft weighing 4000 lbs or more, and $15.00 / Night for parking. It doesn't matter if you buy gas, stay in the hangar, rent a car, eat at the restaurant, or get your plane worked on. The airport authority figures out that you've landed (there is no tower at KLEW) and they send you a bill. The manager said the fees go toward airport maintenance and have been in place since 1995. I feel bad for the FBO, they are trying to do a good job, without much help from the Airport Authority.

Visited Lewiston 12/18-12/21. Kate and a friendly lineman (who's name I did not get) met the plane. They brought the rental car around, helped fuel the plane, kept my three teenaged boys from getting in to mischief, and Kate recommended a good restaurant on the way to our destination. On our return, they had pulled the plane into the hangar to warm over night, I found a strut was low, one of the mechanics dropped what he was doing and added nitrogen, when asked what the cost would be, he said "if you paid for the hangar (I had), don't worry about it." Very nice! Great place to stay if you are visiting Sunday River.

I have the good fortune to be based at KLEW and use Twin Cities for the bulk of my fuel in spite of not always having the best prices. These are real aviation people with friendly staff, good mechanics, good parts stock and a nice, but simple lounge. Be sure to check winter hours before arrival and beware there is no self-service fuel.

Arrived late afternoon and was greeted by line person (lady). Was familiar with a/c, Cessna 421 since they operate 402's in a charter service. Opened door for passengers to disembark, insisted that she unload our luggage from front baggage compartment, and loaded into waiting rental car. I could really get spoiled by this kind of service. Would highly recommend Twin Cities as an alternate to PWM if you are going to the lake region in Maine.

Stopped for a basketball game on a Friday evening and they were very helpful. After I parked, they towed the plane for fuel and then returned it and plugged in the preheat for me. Definitely positive!
