Conducting banner operations out of here for the 2008 Cleveland Indians home games. Very friendly staff and line crew! The maintenance led by Jim is amazing! Reasonable fuel prices for full service. Looks like they are updating the looks of the place as well. New hangers being built as well as some fresh new paint on the older ones. If you're a banner pilot and want to fly in the Cleveland area then come here! Lots of space to work out of, reasonable prices, and A+ service! Thanks everyone at Johnston Aviation! We called ahead about flying in for the Cleveland Boat Show and transportation possibilities. Carrie was very helpful at the counter and arranged to have us a rental car waiting upon our arrival. Facilities are very nice, and line crew was very helpful. Car was sitting on the ramp ready to go. I have stopped multiple times here for easy access to Western Cleveland and have always been treated very well. Thanks again to Carrie who will go out of her way to help you.

This FBO has a habit of listing prices that do not include taxes, which is annoying. The fuel prices and misc fees are VERY high for an airport and FBO of this caliber. If you were parked at PDK, PWK, or ATL with a high quality FBO, you would expect to pay this kind of premium. Most major FBOs charge a huge premium to 100LL when they really don't want to pump it. With the limited amount of Jet traffic at LPR I'm not sure what their rationale is. Our Director Of Ops had a confrontation with the counter girl when he asked her why the Jet A price on AirNav did not include tax (after topping off our Lear 31A) she said simply "good luck getting a credit." The counter staff has usually been helpful and efficient, and the line guys are great. A follow up call to the manager did not yield any apology. If he had simply apologized for an inaccurate AirNav price I would have been happy. For inexpensive 100LL check I40. I wish this airport could get its act together it could be such a nice place.

Diverted due to electrical power failure IFR over lake Erie. Found maintenance staff to be completely incompetent. They didn't know how to find or order an alternator for a Grumman Tiger (I did that by searching the web and finding a distributor). Part arrived next AM. With three mechanics in the end helping, couldn't get the charging system to work. Try 1) First Install. Try 2: Determine wires hooked up backwards, TRY 3) broke the main buss line, and along the way blew the voltage regulated by shorting it to ground (never found this problem, but burnt mark on the wires and frame show it). Each time the cowling and prop were removed. Frustrated and 30 hrs later, left VFR to Rapid City S.D., where a lone competent mechanic 1) bypassed the VR to show everything was functional except the VR, and 2) replaced the VR so the plane charged perfectly. Bottom line: Lorain County maintenance couldn't fix a bad alternator.

A good place to stop. Not slick and fancy, but low fuel prices and prompt service. Cleveland approach was great on our VFR departure too: Called for flight following, intending to remain outside Class B by going all the way around the South side, (Eastbound departure). Immediately after checking in the controller asked if we wanted to go through the Class B, and cleared us right across the Hopkins departure corridor, all the way to our cruising altitude. Try that at any major terminal on the East Coast!

Johnston Aviation very friendly and very helpful. My second time. No better service! Gas and parking very reasonable. First night I had tie down - $10/night. Snowed second day, asked for hangar - $60. ILS and 5000' ft runway. 10 min drive to Turnpike or Interstate; 25 min drive to Rocky River, OH. Can't go wrong here!

After placing comment on web site on 3/3/06 got letter today saying ramp fee was charged by mistake and refunded $30 ramp fee to my credit card. Ramp fee is supposed to be charged only to commercial carriers not private pilots. I appreciate their correction.

Visited the airport for the first time on 3/7/06. Great customer service. Arrived to find the rental car on the ramp, warmed up and ready to go. I was out of there in 10 minutes. Nice facility.

Stopped 4 hours for a funeral. Charged $10 landing & $30 ramp fee. Required 50 gallon fuel purchase to waive fee for light twin but only needed 35 gallons. Won't be back.

Flew into LPR for a mid-winter (-10 C) overnight in a Bellanca turbo Viking. My rental car was running, my request to hangar the plane in their heated facility was honored, I was topped, and I was off to my appointment. If fine service requires an extra dime or two per gallon, I'm all for it. This FBO has improved greatly and deserves support. A very professional operation. Note: listen to your departure clearance carefully at this field. If they don't give you a departure vector of 360 or so, when departing RW7, verify. I didn't get one (this, last fall), and then, as I turned south to my first fix, in cloud 200 feet off the ground and single pilot, Cleveland Approach went berserk because I was encroaching on their approach traffic. One of the locals says they'll always run departures from LPR north and around to the west. Trust but verify.

I returned several times in the past few weeks to KLPR, and I must admit the service was dramatically better. It was nice to be greated and assisted by the line personnel, as well as the several courtesy rides to and from our aircraft. Fuel prices are still on par with ORD/BOS/JFK, so I only purchased a minimum, also they do charge for almost every service, to include landing, parking, etc. Overall a much improved experience. Thank you Johnston line and counter staff!

Spent about 4 hours there and both line guys were good to deal with. The lady inside was great, borrowed their crew van to go get lunch, very helpful with a number of questions and issues that I had. No landing or parking fees - did buy 20 gallons of 100LL and at $4.80 per gallon it's expensive. All in all a good experience.

I parked here for several days. When we arrived there were no line people to help, and our presence was totally unrecognized. No help was offered with parking, bags, or chocking. Fuel was $4.80/gallon for 100LL, so we didn't buy any at all. When doing flight planning, two line were loudly watching a football game in the pilots lounge, making it difficult to concentrate on a difficult flight through weather. When we departed, again, no line personnel in sight. We had to drag our bags to the parking area (about 150 yards), no help was offered. The counter staff was polite and friendly, but overall I wouldln't use this airport unless it was absolutely required (it was for us). I had heard the old airport director was fired for theft, let's hope the new management has a clue.

Got grounded here for two days for weather. The staff was professional, but didn't go out of their way to make me and my family particularly welcome. Not their job to roll out the welcome-wagon all the time, but their attitude was more businesslike than friendly. With the high fuel prices, I might try Elyria next time.
