Great strip and beautiful FBO and the most beautiful approach you can imagine. Even the best service would pale in comparison to such natural beauty...So the folks at Mackinac don't even try. Two park rangers in the FBO won't lift a finger to assist for sure and are positively indifferent. Forty two dollars for landing fee and tie down for one night and no tie down ropes in sight. Regardless, we had a nice visit. The taxi (we had called ahead) did not show so we hoofed it to town...An absolutely beautiful and easy 2 mile walk. Mackinac was overrun with people in early August but we found a room at the Pontiac Lodge. $165/night for a most basic room, but clean and well located, Rent bikes for a ride on the perimeter road around the island and you can stop and see sights along the way...and even stop for a swim.

Traveled to Mackinac Island on June 28th 2008 and had an excellent stay. Broke out at minimums on the VOR-A and circled to runway 26 with no issues, while on final for 26 we were called by airport staff via Unicom and asked if we needed a taxi and we declined and said we planned to make it on foot, she then preceded to say that once off the runway we could go ahead and park next to the PC-12. Once in the terminal we were charged the $10.50 landing fee and gave the code to get into the terminal after hours and we were on our way. Overall great experience will be back!

Went to the Island in late September 2007. Paid approx 10.50 per night for parking. Not any help at ramp except to collect fee. Remodeling airport looks like it will be nice when done. Stayed at the Chippewa around right down town. Great Island to visit but airport could use a little more service if you have to pay a per night fee.

Nice runway and tie downs. The FBO is undergoing remodeling. One nice young man at small desk who picks up your $10.50 fee for landing, and he also points out the red phone for calling the horse drawn taxi. It's 2 miles to the city if you decide to walk. Call ahead on Unicom for the taxi. If he answers, you can request the taxi ahead of time. Otherwise it can take up to 20 minutes to get one out to you.

Great one-day stop! Like a step back in time. Airport has no fuel, but is manned. FBO bldg is being remodeled and will be very nice eventually. They do have restrooms and computer flight planning. Horse taxi is $6.50 per person one way, and there is nothing wrong with it. Bike ride around the island is fun.

Scenic destination, the Stonecliffe is best for the dollar, best views and easy walk to the airport, there is a gate through the fence on the rwy 8 taxiway. Very accommodating airport personnel and as others have noted...NO Fuel... But St Ignace is only 5 miles away if you need fuel. The horse taxi is to be avoided, bring your folding bike if possible as the taxi is $6.50 per person for any distance, plus tip. The ride to Stonecliffe is 4-minutes, a 7-minute walk or 3-minutes on the bike. Wife absolutely loved the place.

Great destination. Paid $21.00 for overnight and $13.00 each way for transportation (horse) into town. The Woods restaurant is located near the airport (walking distance) ask directions. Bring your own tie down ropes.

Landed after a long day of flying. Staff at airport radioed directions for parking (would be way to tough a job to come out and direct traffic). Ended up w/ a tie down on the tarmac, but, had to make a few trips into the airport to understand what I needed to do w/ the plane (this may have been an operator error at this point). Paid my landing fee and tie down fees for two nights. Took the taxi in to Grand Hotel enjoyed the island (not the Grand) and headed out. Same friendly service from the staff (none - not even an acknowledgement of existence), untied the plane, packed up and headed out. The best part of the trip was the stop at Ephraim on the way home where you can appreciate why you land at these single runways Mecca’s to begin with...

Usually the airport ramp is full and grass parking is crowded, but this year parked on the ramp. Bring your own tie-down anchors and ropes, as there are none available. Parking fees for 2 nights was $31. Airport terminal is basic but has PC WX & payphone. Horse taxis are flat rate at $6.25 / person with a 2 person minimum charge. Horse taxis WILL NOT transport bikes, even collapsed folding bikes. So I had to pay $12.50 for my girlfriend and our luggage to ride on an otherwise empty cart the mile from the Inn at Stonecliff (beautiful place!) to the airport. Then I had the pleasure of running the mile back to Stonecliff to unfold her bike and ride back to the airport again! **Avoid the Horse Taxis if at all possible**. Bring your folding bike, contact your hotel for a porter, and save yourself the aggravation! If you must take a horse taxi, ask for a foreign driver as they are generally friendly & speak English well as compared to the sometimes-rude locals who don't like tourists.
