The people at Evergreen Aviation were extremely helpful and friendly. They treated our little red-and-white Skybolt like a celebrity. I'd definitely go out of my way to visit them next time I'm passing through.

This might be a great airport, and after reading the comments of others, I decided to go there. As I had a bit of dificulity with my aircraft that day, I drove, while some friends flew. Upon arriving at the airport's entrance, I was told that it was a PRIVATE airport, and I could not enter. (This was by the "EVERGREEN" guards at the only entrance. I understand from my friends that the airport was interesting, but they also experienced a problem with fueling. The attendant told them that there was a 150 dollar fee for service, and yet he was already there. I might fly there, but be forewarned! Don't expect to drive there, and never expect to get a ride to/from town as the guards will not allow anyone to enter. I called the "aiport sponsor" (Pinal County) and got nowhere with my complaints. Lesson learned: Never buy fuel there, and NEVER attempt to drive there!

Significant Disappointment - Telephone @ 0930 Sunday 7/6/08 asking if 100LL was available & to verify price per AirNav of 5.15/gal - was told "yes we have plenty of fuel & if price is on web will be honored" but she honestly admitted she did not know whom to ask to verify. She added "Come on in & we will fuel you" When we arrived 50 minutes later from PAN we were told by fueler that he would have to charge us $150 call-out fee even thought he was already there "Boss's instructions" was his explanation. Unacceptable - especially when confirmed by telephone within the hour of arrival! I will go elsewhere & share this true tale widely. Too bad - I thought they were trying to be friendlier???

The airport is a lot friendlier now. As long as we keep away from the airlines we are welcome at this amazing place. You can still enjoy the sights from the air and on ground from the far. We have started a Flying Club and you will now routinely find us taking lessons here every Saturday come and join us.

I flew in to Pinal with my family today. The transient parking and the FBO are at the South-East side of the airport. It was closed, as it was a Sunday. We got a lot of help and good advice from a local. Just stay away from the parked planes and in case someone should ask explain that you are on the way from your plane to the restaurant. The restaurant is at the South-West side of the field. Use Google-Earth and look for the pool. It's close to a mile to walk.

Pinal is a great place to visit for aviation enthusiasts. I am in the commercial aviation parts business. Evergreen is a heavy maintenance base and storage facility for airliners. I flew there in my Piper Jetprop this week on business. Based on comments here, I made sure to arrange for "permission" to land. It is not needed. It is a public airport and great place to stop. The folks at Evergreen were happy to help and thankful for the business. Fuel is reasonable and the facilities are unique. What you cannot do is get near the airliners that are parked all over the field for obvious security reasons. If you respect that rule and park only at the FBO you will be welcomed. It is also true that you cannot drive there; they will not let you in unless you have an appointment. This is an old military base. The former officer's club is now a bar and restaurant that serves a nice lunch. In short, go there, it is worth it. Just be respectful of the assets on site.
