I have to say that I'm very impressed by the staff at this facility. I diverted here late in the evening due to weather, I thought we were stuck but Alex came out and picked us up, made hotel reservations and gave us a lift out to the hotel. He even came back in the morning and picked us up. We were so grateful to find such hospitality! I also highly recommend stopping by in the morning for breakfast. Great gas prices, great food, and great people. Alex thanks again!

Visit in February, did not eat at the restaurant, but the FBO was very nice and modern with all amenities, guy behind the desk was very friendly and helpful.

Stopped at OBE on the 12th. Like others have said the decor has changed for the better. Our server was prompt so it must be a hit or miss. Our food was warm and good no complaints. Alex came by out of the blue and gave my 1-year-old daughter a set of wings and a foam airplane. I believe the restaurant is now owned and managed by the airport. I would recommend complaining to them for bad service or food quality. From the looks of everything else they committed to constant improvement.

Yesterday, I visited the Landing Strip Cafe' at the OBE airport. I haven't been here in a while...Wow, has that place changed. The decor is beautiful. The FBO staff is great. I fueled up and went to eat some of their famous breakfast. (Co-pilot) When I received my food it was cold, and I had no utensils. I tried to flag down the waitress, but she acted as if she didn't see me. When I finally did get her attention and she came to the table and I told her about it. She rolled her eyes and said I should have came got her. I am the customer. I don't want to have to chase the waitress around, just to get good service. I got so frustrated that I finally just left. Come on OBE I know you can do better!

Stopped in with an instrument student for lunch & fuel. OBE keeps getting better and better! Two new GPS approaches complete with new runway markings, a refurbished restaurant and FBO, properly priced 100LL and Alex Mendoza the best FBO manager in Central Florida. He keeps things running smooth and is always cheerful & helpful. OBE is always worth the stop - forget the coastline head inland. :-)

Stopped at OBE instead of usual FPR on way to Bahamas due to greatly increased fuel prices at FPR. Fuel was $1/gal cheaper, food at restaurant very good, people at restaurant and FBO very nice, and OBE has no flight schools (which can add a lot of ground time at FPR). Very well worth the 18-mile difference in total trip time. Will stop again tomorrow on another trip back to Bahamas. Just wish they had Customs so I could use them on return trip.

The Landing Strip has changed (from the previous posting) much for the better. The outside tables are back; the booths have been replaced with tables that will be to the liking of every aviation enthusiast. I won't describe them; you'll have to see for yourself. I understand the FBO has taken over the restaurant, and it shows. OBE is a great place to fuel your plane...And your belly.

From Robert Glidewell on 27-Jan-2008
I visited often while getting my pilots license and they were always very helpful and nice. The FBO is really friendly, and the gas price speaks for itself. The staff at the FBO helped with my confusion the first time I ever attempted to fuel a plane myself, and they did this without making me feel like a complete idiot. I would highly recommend this airport/FBO to anyone passing through the area.

It is refreshing to visit KOBE. The gas prices are always the best and the Landing Strip always has courteous and friendly service. People are great as well. What more can I say.

I made my first visit to Okeechobee yesterday and will definitely be going back. The Jet center service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. They even took time to show us all the upcoming plans for the airport and FBO, which will make this a truly first class airport over the next couple of years. Breakfast at the Landing Strip Diner was also excellent with good prices and attentive service. The airport will be closed for a few days starting 10/8/07 for resurfacing of the main runway, 5-23.

I had been keeping my airplane at F45 North Palm Beach till I flew to OBE. Best prices, nicest people, and excellent restaurant. I am so impressed by this place that I'm moving my airplane here for good, even though it adds 25 minutes to my drive to the airport. Good management and planning for the future.

Today, I visited the Landing Strip Cafe at OBE for the first time since February, and I'm glad I did. What a noticeable improvement. Bridget was my server. She was pleasant and efficient and made me feel welcome with her great smile as soon as I sat down. The other servers were very pleasant as well. Even the food has improved, which wasn't bad to start with. I hope they keep doing what they are doing, because it's working. If you haven't visited in a while, check it out -- they have turned this place around in a positive way!

Stopped at Okeechobee's landing strip cafe for breakfast, it was great. Just 2.99 for full meal (copilot), great and friendly service and beautiful new decor. Cheap fuel and great food a winning mix.....

From Thomas S. Breza on 23-Jun-2007
I have purchased fuel for 10-15 years at KOBE and the FBO manager Alex is a great guy. Never had a problem in the restaurant and the service has been great until I read the last comments. This is not OBE style. Give it another chance. It will change I am sure.....

From Mace Horoff on 26-Feb-2007
The FBO is friendly and OBE clearly has the best fuel prices in the area. But the service in the cafe has really bottomed out. I've experienced repeated incidents of bad service and a few waitresses with consistently poor attitudes. I'll be making my $100 hamburger flights to a restaurant whose staff at least pretends to appreciate my business.

From Brian Kahan on 25-Feb-2007
Have gone to KOBE many times before. It was a beautiful morning and the wife and I decided to take our little Shih Tzu for a $100 breakfast. I assumed that there would be no problem with the dog, as I knew that there were tables outside. Got fuel (great price) parked the plane and proceeded to the restaurant and found that the outside tables that were always there were removed. The FBO offered his table next door so that we could get breakfast. The restaurant staff refused service (even though they share a common space where the table was located). It was apparent that the two businesses were not sharing the love between each other. Not only were we refused restaurant services but two waitresses gave my wife and I more profanities and ugliness than I have seen in quite some time. Wrecked our morning but taught me that the extra miles and expense for cheap fuel and a nice meal at KOBE is no longer worth it. It's obvious that they don't value business from airman.

Response from Vernon Gray, Okeechobee Jet Center
The comments of Feb 25 and 26 are unfortunately factual regarding the very recent deterioration of the quality of the service at the restaurant. The bad behavior of a few of the waitresses is inexcusable. This situation, which is entirely out of character with the restaurants past reputation, has come about because of the terminal illness and absence of the restaurant's primary owner/manager, and a few disgruntled employees. New management of the restaurant is expected in the near future. - OBE Airport Manager.

Good airport, good on the field restaurant, and cheap self-service fuel from a pump that is lightning quick. Good service at restaurant did not use any of the FBO services inside. OVERALL GRADE: A

Two visits in three days. Alex is great and the fuel price is great. We stop here every time we need fuel in the area.

From Thomas Walsh on 15-Dec-2006
Gary is right on you can fill a 40 gal tank in about a minute it is very fast, and yet as you get to the top you can control it to a trickle. Great pump, great price, easy all around nice terminal building and facilities. I'll be back

From Don Raper, N9102J on 12-Dec-2006
Flew in 12-10-2006 for Cherokee Flyin breakfast. Got airport advisories from ground. Everyone was friendly. Self-serve fuel was "cheap". Had to park my self. Saw only chain tie downs. If one wants rope, it looks like one would have to furnish it.
