Went to land for fuel on 6/24/11 and the AWOS says "Runway 5/23 (or whatever it is) CLOSED UFN. FIXED WING DO NOT LAND!" Not sure how long further notice will be, but be advised if you're planning on stopping here!

Response from Jim Elliott, Currituck County
The runway was closed for 3 weeks while they installed stubs for a new north end taxiway. It opened back up July 1st. Also in process of re-sealing and repainting runway. The place is looking great and low fuel prices make this a great place to stop.

I had flown down to KFFA (First Flight) for the day and was looking for a fuel stop. KONX was the place! Inexpensive fuel and great FBO. (PC's seem to be on dial-up so there a little slow) Airport Manager checked on us to make sure we were all set and if wee needed anything else. Southern Hospitality! There is ultralight activity so keep your head on a swivel. A great little airport and it is now one of our fuel stops when heading South.

I arrived with my family for Mother's Day and "Mark" took care of us, giving us the courtesy car, directing us to a great restaurant - The Coinjock Marina - for a great meal on the water. Unfortunately, when departing I had a serious magneto issue. Mark quickly found us a place to stay, access to the terminal, etc until we could decide on what to do. Thanks so much, and GREAT FUEL PRICES...We'll be back.

Flew in on April 22, 2010. Found the airport to be well maintained. There was plenty of ramp space to park and the staff was friendly and extremely helpful. Fuel prices were reasonable and there was no landing or parking fees. I highly recommend this airport for transient pilots wanting to visit the outer banks...Btw the Currituck BQ Company on 4467 Caratoke Highway is a MUST!!! Great BQ!!!

Landed Valentine's Eve, after hours, nobody around, but SS fuel area well lighted. Sorta used nature’s facilities, as every thing was locked up. Best fuel price anywhere between the Keys and NE PA. Warmed my heart to see snow on the ground in the Carolina's, keep up the good work Al! After using those high speed pumps, like a gallon a second, the old pumps are agonizingly slow. This was one of them. 110 gals in below freezing temps and the wind howling, was quite painful! But offset by the great price. Definitely stop again.

I stopped at Currituck County on Oct 21 2009 on a flight from Winston Salem to the outerbanks. Great airport, service and fuel prices. I look forward to visiting there again. Just keep a sharp lookout for the ultralight traffic working from the grass on the field.

I land at this place in April 2009 after flight from Kissimmee direct Currituck. I arrive at 23:00 with a real empty fuel tank (I put 63.5 on 64...) And after I'm not really interested in go on by the night, Surprise I have a bed and a shower on the place with coffee. Thanks for all Snowman.

We had another good experience at The Currituck airport. Fuel was as advertised at $3.13 per gallon for avgas, all the fueling equipment worked fine and the ramp side door was unlocked for the bathrooms and to check weather. This is a great refueling spot near the Outer Banks and the facilities are neat and clean.

This is a great place to stop. In addition to the obvious, Cheap gas, the staff is great. Glenn Brinkley (hope I spelled his name correctly) the manager fueled my plane for me. He is a retired law enforcement officer so do not stop there if you are doing or intend to do anything bad. This place is a keeper. If you’re running the Atlantic coastline, you should stop. I feel confident you will come back. I sure will.

From Allen Gilbert on 28-Apr-2009

SUPER CHEAP GAS! Also a very nice FBO. And I know how many of you are avid skateboarders or BMXers. There's a skate park on the field. Haha I've never seen that before!
