This airport probably inspired the phrase, "Try it you'll like it." You will be hard pressed to find better fuel prices, service or friendly staff. Airport has a great runway will full ILS runway 30 and now GPS on runway 12. We fly in almost weekly sometime more often and prefer this airport to any in the area. If you are headed to Florida from "Up North" this is the place to stop.

Stopped here twice in four days. Great price for 100LL, 3.80 SS. First stop was during daylight hours and I pulled up to the FBO and asked for fuel. When I mentioned to the lineman that I didn't see the SS station he said he would give me the SS price and he did and pointed out the location of the SS station. It is marked with a sign that is pretty low to the ground if you aren't really looking for it in the daytime. Second stop was at night after hours. The only issues I had were someone was in front of me, they pushed out of the way when I pulled up-popular place, and the self serve consol was not back lit. I had to go back to the plane and get a flashlight to see the instructions. Great place to stop. I'll make this the midway stop on my regular flights from the west Florida Panhandle to SC.

The terminal is pretty nice and the FBO is very helpful. The self-serve pump worked fine and the tiedown spots are convenient to the terminal.

Very nice airport, FBO and people. Lots of fast food places to eat within short drive of airport. Additional discount of $.15/gallon available on Jet A for purchases of 100 gallons or more. Brings the cost down to $3.15/gallon which is tough to beat.

FANTASTIC! Had to land here with a dead alternator on a Sunday afternoon. Pete Pettis graciously called a mechanic who came out to diagnose and confirm for us. They let us use the beautiful "Crew SUV" to get lunch while they charged our battery and our handheld radio. Even offered to let us keep the crew car overnight if we ended up being totally stranded. Luckily not necessary, but true hospitality. I will be back, hopefully with a fully functioning aircraft next time!

OPN was a great stop. We returned on the 4th of July and the FBO was closed. Self serve 100 LL worked great and we had the keyless entry code (given to us on the last visit, with permission to use on the 4th) to one of the Expeditions to travel to Chili's for lunch. Enjoy the skydivers.... We will be back.

Friendly and clean FBO with good fuel prices. Southern hospitality at its best.

From Dan Hill on 22-Feb-2009

Very nice airport.... One of the easiest self-service I have found. Very friendly and Clean FBO.

From Daniel Eberl on 07-Jan-2009

Wow! Landed here Jan 2 for the cheap gas, as a rainsquall was moving in. Filed IFR on the way out, but my cell phone had no reception, and no ground RCO. So, one of the FBO guys drove my family over to the plane, gave me his cell phone to call in for my clearance after engine start, and then I passed it out to him through the vent window of our Cardinal. Unbelievable service! Would definitely come back!

From Dean Williams on 03-Jan-2009

Landed here on Dec 28 under IMC, 15-20 minutes after scheduled closing, but the folks here knew I was arriving and stayed open to provide fuel; they allowed access to the terminal facility for my family's needs, then actually stayed further until I had obtained my IFR clearance and took the runway for takeoff. Great service and among the best fuel price in the area. I'll certainly stop here again.

Stopped in for gas & lunch. Great airport, great fuel prices. Mitch had the courtesy car (late-model Expedition!) plane side before I was done at the SS pump, told me just to leave the plane parked in front of the pump, since he wasn't expecting any other traffic (lousy wx day). Try Aviano's Italian/Greek restaurant in town, it was great!

What great airport! Low fuel prices, excellent facility and fabulous service. Stopped for overnight on 9-24, by the time I closed my flight plan Mitch Ellerbee had my plane tied down. He then helped me find a hotel and gave me a courtesy car to get to town. After flying to over 100 different airports, OPN is at the top of my list of favorite FBOs. Mitch made me feel like "company come to visit". Thanks

We stopped for Cirrus fuel and lunch on Sept. 16, 2008. Self Service 100LL price is terrific. The FBO is clean and neat and personnel helpful. This was an excellent place to refuel while enroute between Naples, FL and Glasgow, KY.

Great place stopped for fuel on the way from Florida to OSH very friendly service

From George Haffey on 05-Aug-2008

Stopped in based on reviews, but got stuck overnight for weather. Crew vehicle was a blessing. Just can't say enough about the hospitality and facilities. I just can't imagine why you would stop anywhere else within 100 miles. Good price on fuel, friendly staff, great runway, etc. Etc.!

From Dan Gryder on 11-Jul-2008

UPDATE: KOPN now has three very nice late model full size crew cars replacing the older vans. They are keyless entry so if you divert for weather and get on the ground after hours, call Mitch for the door code and you are set. Keys are always above the drivers side visor.

This is the airport that us locals located on the south side of the Atlanta TCA use. ALWAYS the cheapest gas around by far.

From Dan Gryder on 19-Mar-2008

I landed at Thomaston for gas and had a brake problem on my DC-3. I borrowed a van from Mitch and drove back to my hangar and got a mechanic, a truck, tools, and a jack. By the time I got back to Thomaston Airport manager Mitch Ellerbee had a forklift waiting and unloaded the jack for me. He and another airport employee waited until 9pm - off the clock - for us to finish and get gone. Neither one would accept any money for their time or equipment. KOPN has a long runway, ILS, approach lights, 3 free courtesy cars, and a staff that deserve medals. Also, KOPN is always the cheapest gas.

We flew over to Thomaston-Upton last Wednesday just to check out the airport and pick up some fuel. Benny Tucker met us at the plane and showed us where the self-service pump was located. Even though it was 17:45, and they close up at 18:00, he took the time to tell us about all of the local restaurant options and gave us one of the airport vans so we could go get something to eat. Everyone we talked to was extremely friendly and the facilities were top notch. Great experience!

I had the pleasure of my first visit to the Thomaston-Upson County Airport last Thursday night on my flight to New Orleans. A line of approaching thunderstorms mandated a stop for the night. I had a fouled plug, and wanted it checked. I approached the locked terminal, but called the nearby Days Inn and the owner insisted on picking me up, in about 15 min. he arrived. He insisted on taking me to the local Taco Bell, for a late dinner. He would not take a dime for the transportation, and with a room discount ($ 62) had a comfortable night's sleep. In the AM, called the terminal and spoke to the airport manager, Mitch Ellerbee, he insisted on picking me up, meanwhile he gave me the number of the local maintenance contact, Ken Ellis of Performance Aviation. He came in to look at my plane. They could not have been more accommodating - Ken would not charge me for changing a couple of plugs and I was off to New Orleans in clear weather by 10 am. What a great experience! I advise you all to go out of your way to stop at KOPN!

One of the best airports I have landed at. People are extremely nice and helpful. Great fuel prices and I will make it stop anytime I am through the area.

From Keith Dorken on 04-Jul-2007

Great fuel stop on way back from KISM to Canada, except for the routing you get to continue around Atlanta northward. Friendly airport manager and for the extra $.20, let them pump the fuel.

From Evanthe Papastathis on 10-Apr-2007

I had to put down yesterday due to weather and OPN was the nearest so I landed there. I must tell you all how nice Travis and the people there were. They helped me in everyway possible and even had a cup of coffee ready as it was down right cold and they knew I would need to get warmed up. There operation is top notch. I was given access to all the resources to get the information I needed to get back to PDK safely. This may have been my first time there, but will not be my last. In fact, I will ask my instructors to start sending our students there x-cty and approach practice. Thanks OPN, Evanthe Papastathis Skybound Aviation

This place is a must stop. Mitch fueled my Bonanza from his fuel truck for self-service price. The windshield was covered with frost all I had was a light jacket. I called ahead; he left the courtesy car out for us that night so we could get to the local motel. He has a good assortment of charts available. We will be back on our way to Sun N Fun. The price, service & courtesy are second to none.

From Jim Olen on 30-Mar-2007

The facilities and service just don't get any better then at OPN. Best price on fuel and friendly fast service. Even if I don't need fuel I stop by just to say hello to Travis. You'll arrive as a stranger and leave as a new friend. If you're in the area this is a must stop.

From Malcolm W Ford, St Thomas US Virgin Islands on 29-Mar-2007

Stopped by to pick up fuel, excellent and friendly service, and great prices. Mr. Travis Daniel was so helpful, and courteous.

From Richard Lane on 25-Mar-2007

We flew our Maule into OPN on March 24th for a day visit. Travis is a top-notch guy and met me on the ramp to offer the hospitality car for our visit and service for the AC. Terminal is very nice too. We recommend you stop at Upson for a friendly, stress fee stop. We'll be back...

From Chris Faircloth on 24-Mar-2007

Excellent place to stop. I live in South Haven Michigan and do a couple of trips a year to FD77 (Tampa area). I usually make this trip non-stop, but if have to stop this is the place to do it. Travis and Mitch were very helpful. We used a crew car for an overnight at The Jameson.

From John Luebben on 14-Mar-2007

The staff and local people are top notch. Real Southern hospitality!! I flew my Glasair down there just before sunset to get some of the cheapest fuel around Atlanta. My starter broke and they let me have the airport van overnight so I could drive home and bring back the parts the next day. 100-mile roundtrip. Really nice "hometown" airport!!! New FBO.

From John Hewitt on 13-Feb-2007

Both Mitch and Travis are just terrific. Very customer driven and highly knowledgeable and competent. The terminal is always clean, and the atmosphere is friendly.

From C Winship on 12-Feb-2007

Travis and the gang just keeps getting better and better! Great airport, lowest full service fuel around, lowest self service fuel around, absolute best customer service around. They just put a new (longer) hose on the self-service pump to make it easier for us to fuel and go. I just wish I lived closer so I could be based there. This FBO REALLY appreciates your business and it shows!!
