My wife and I (and the pooch) flew into Wurtsmith on July 5th with plans to spend the night. When our transportation arrangements fell apart, Ray Anderson, the FBO operator, was quick to come to the rescue, and was able to provide transportation for our overnight. I've stopped here a couple times in the past and have always had a good experience. Stop by sometime and visit Ray.

We arrived late on Thurs, July 3rd only to find the airport deserted. Ray heard our call to Unicom from his home radio and came to the airport to give us a hand. He gave us a lift to our rental car and, on the way, gave us a tour of the airport. Ray was around all through the holiday weekend and helped us with the self serve pumps after we rolled the nozzle into the rack. We really enjoyed our visit in Oscoda and we are very much looking forward to returning soon! Thanks again, Ray!

This is a great place to fly to for a summer vacation, the owner was able to provide me with a car even with little advance notice, and he was very helpful. With it's location and size it's sad that this airport doesn't get more use, check it out.

I made an unplanned stop at OSC Sunday afternoon June 22 to wait out a line of severe thunderstorms. Ray Anderson, the FBO operator was monitoring CTAF and heard my announcement on approach. He contacted me and upon finding out I was unfamiliar with the airport, he volunteered to meet me on the ramp. He drove over from his home to the airport and instantly made me feel welcome. He set me up in the terminal building/pilot lounge with radar weather and TV, loaned me a car and gave directions to a local restaurant, and even found a place for my Cardinal in one of his hangars because he was worried about possible hail. This great service turned a potentially uncomfortable stop into a pleasant experience. Thanks again Ray!

Flew into Wurtsmith today, Sunday, Oct 28th. What a great facility, made even better by Ray Anderson, the FBO operator. Courtesy car was not available but it didn't matter, as Ray was very quick to offer my wife and myself a ride to a rather distant little restaurant. I had never met Ray but he made us feel instantly at home and even gave us a tour of the former Air Force base. This is a very large airport, but if you follow the blue line, it will take you directly to the FBO and ample parking. Very reasonable fuel prices to top it all off. I will definitely be back.

We called about 5 days before a visit we where making inquiring about rental cars with Ray. Crew car was offered. We called day before visit to confirm, mechanic refused to take message. Called later and left message on answering machine reminding Ray about crew car + inquiring about gas. No return call. Paged. No return call. Called airport manager (Thomas O. Salter) he found rental and saved the day. Dino Ford After all that, was still going to buy gas. They where out until Monday. A little communications would have gone a long way here.
Response from Raymond Anderson, Oscoda-Wurtsmith Aviation Services I told you folks that I would loan you a car and I had it ready to go. I drove it to the terminal when you arrived and the airport manager said that you had rented a car. So I drove it back. I receive a ton of phone calls, 24 hours a day, and try to satisfy everyone. Yet it is just myself and a part time mechanic to cover all of this. We try our best.

On Aug 3, 2007 I flew into OSC, got fuel at the self-service pump, then wandered to the hangar and talked with some gentlemen there. One gentleman offered to drive me to Greenbush to visit my long-lost high school buddy. He dropped me off there, we had a great visit after 40 years, and a neighbor drove me back to the airport. Chuck was waiting for me to let me in to get my airplane, and I left to go back to 1D2. Later I discovered I had left my glasses, and a couple calls to Chuck, then Ray, then Doug and they were located. Doug said he would send them to me. I thoroughly enjoyed my stop there, the visit, and the hospitality offered by all those I met. I want to return to OSC again and this time I will bring my wife to see the beautiful country and meet the good people.

Stopped in on the 22nd of July (Sunday) to see some family. The FBO was closed since the airport wasn’t to busy. However, as I was unloading the A/C, the FBO manager drove in having hearing me over his personal scanner at home. Mr. Anderson is very helpful and even gave me information that I did not need at the time but that will be helpful when I return. Thank you for your efforts sir and be assured that I will return. On another note, to those who find that they are locked out...If you look on the gate door before you leave, you will see how you can reenter and that is the same way to enter the building. So it is kind of hard to be locked out.

Huge facility!! I got mixed up a bit looking for the parking. Follow the signs labeled "TERM" for parking. Flew in on a Friday mid-day and found the place a too quiet for an airport the size of OSC. I finally found someone working in the terminal building after hunting around. Tie-down is very reasonable- $3/night, first waived with fuel. When I arrived Friday, I was told the FBO was closed Sundays so the attendant waived tie down since I was taking on fuel- thanks! Great facilities, just wish it had the business to afford keeping it better staffed.
Response from Raymond Anderson, Oscoda-Wurtsmith Aviation Services Jeremy is very confused. The terminal building is closed on the weekends and after 5:00pm weekly. The FBO is available 24 hours, 7 days a week. Our contact numbers are posted all around the terminal lobby. I do not understand why people do not call the posted numbers or better yet, call ahead if they need something. We will make someone available 24 hours a day. This is a large airport and, there is just one part time employee and myself to cover the FBO. CALL US, WE FORWARD THE CALLS TO WHERE WE ARE, OR PAGE US, THE NUMBER IS ON THE ANSWERING MACHINE! We are around there somewhere, not just sitting around waiting to have coffee with someone.

Stopped at KOSC for fuel. Self-service setup was well maintained. Ray Anderson, the manager, personally drove me to the nearest local restaurant (Wurtzee's I believe, which had great burgers!) so I could catch a bite and arranged for them to bring me back. Overall, a very good experience.

I was on my Commercial solo requirement of a 250nm cross-country. On my trip back to SE Michigan, I stopped for fuel and food at OSC. Unfamiliar with the airport, Mr. Anderson had me follow his truck in my Diamond Eclipse to get to the FBO. Then he helped me get fuel and drove me to the local pub and arranged a ride back for me. I have never been on such a large facility where such a nice and helpful FBO resided. Thanks.

What an airport! The runway is so long you could take off and land multiple times in our 172. After meeting Mr. Anderson, he let us use his truck to go and visit a sick relative in town without even knowing us! That's a rare thing these days. The facilities were wonderful and I would highly recommend a visit.

I fly into OSC often, making cross-countries from KARB to KOSC whenever I can. I have flown there about seven times since this past summer, and every time I am offered great service. I grew up in Michigan and I am very familiar with Wurtsmith AFB. Both Ray and Mr. Salter are very helpful with anything, and Mr. Salter offered a ride to my friend and I to Wiltsie's just outside the base. Can't wait to fly there again in the near future.

I stopped there yesterday while en route to KPEO from KDLH. Self-service 100LL and and the best price around. Long runway with ILS, if you happen to need one, for practice or as an alternate. It's quite big airfield - used to be a military base - so follow the blue line to the fuel. Otherwise you may be lost!

Flew in Sunday evening 12/17/06 as just a stop on a cross-country. Was met by Mr. Anderson just after we parked. Got a tour in his car. Was offered a courtesy car without asking. Stayed way too long because of the great service and company. Already planning to go back. Yankee Air force Museum located on site, call for hours. VISIT THIS AIRPORT. 11, 800ft. Runway. 747 on site, great fishing!!

My brother and I flew in today for supper and to check out the area, since I was last there 8 years ago. Mr. Anderson was waiting to assist us and to arrange a courtesy car. I felt he went out of his way to help, and I would recommend anyone to stop in Oscoda in the future. A+ stop.

I stopped for fuel about 5:30 pm, FBO was closed, but if you call ahead you get the code to access the building. There is weather terminal inside and vending machines and phone. Also fuel is self-service. Huge airport with ILS ET all. It is also fun to see all the 747s parked at the terminal. I would stop again.
Response from Ray Anderson, Oscoda-Wurtsmith Aviation Services Thank you for your comment. I had talked to you earlier and gave you information on how to get in. The FBO number is 24 hour and you may call at any time. I hope that you grabbed an FBO brochure, in the terminal lobby, that has loads of information about the area , as well as phone numbers for almost everthing that you may need. Hope to see you again.

I arrived in town by boat and a friend was to pick me up at the airport the next day. Mr. Anderson come out @ 2200 hrs to give me a courtesy car to drive overnight no questions asked. He really went out of his way to help out a fellow pilot. I plan to return for my BFR just to help out his business. Thank you again.

Landed at OSC this last Saturday afternoon with no plan as to how to get to my friend's place on Lake Huron south of Oscoda. The FBO owner, Ray Anderson, met me just minutes after touchdown. I asked him how to get a taxi, and he immediately volunteered to give me a ride to my friend's place. Great service... I will visit again! Thanks Ray!

The phone is answered in an unprofessional manner, just a 'hello.' No Crew car available. I asked about catering and was told there was nothing. I later found a restaurant/caterer 1.8 miles from the airport which was very happy to help me out.
Response from Raymond Anderson, Oscoda-Wurtsmith Aviation Services If the phone is answered "Hello", it is because we are working elsewhere at the airport and have forwarded the calls to our cell phones. We also forward the calls to our homes at night, therefore...."Hello"

We flew in to Oscoda the last weekend of July. We were offered a car for the evening, which turned into overnight. We were given a number to contact Mr. Anderson at if we needed. I left a message with him and he returned my call at 8:30 PM when other FBO facilities would have not called back. I thought he was very helpful. So what if the fuel is self serve? I'm not above pumping my own gas. I would return.
