Meager accommodations, but rich in history. You'd be hard pressed to find a more genuine, nice and accommodating manager than Marshall. Thank you for great service!

Southwind Airlines gave me great service yesterday. While the gas was a bit pricey, they got the airplane fueled quickly and on my way. Parking is $8.00/day. Taxi to South Padre will run $35-$40 each way. $35 for J-J Taxi and $40 for the owner recommended one.

I flew in to KPIL on Thursday, 14 July, and spent the weekend in South Padre Island. The FBO now has a nice pilots lounge with leather recliners, satellite TV, and a flight planning computer with an Internet connection and printer (which didn't work on the day, unfortunately). The FBO staff was courteous and helpful. The fuel price is high and the there is a $8/day tie down/ramp fee, but compared to my experiences at KBRO the last time I flew in for the weekend, I highly recommend you give KPIL a try. I will definitely make this airport my preferred destination for visits to South Padre Island.

The field is the closest to S. Padre so it's nice in that sense and the people were nice, though facilities felt limited. I suppose the bathroom, shower, and lounge was nice enough but I wish they had internet instead on their computer. Fuel was high, but as expected. The airport was strange because it was an old navy base, all in all it was nice to go in and out of a smaller airport and be closer to the vacation spot of South Padre. B&B's Taxi is $35 to the island, whereas the others cost $50. Rental cars were available but all gone when we got there.

Great service, but 100LL is pricey. Staff was very helpful and they have their own rental vehicles. Nice place. When we return to South Padre, here is where we will land.
