Labor Day visitors 2011 A warning about flying and getting fuel I have flown here many times before---the service was always very good. Until today. The FBO is moving to Brownsville because it can't get a lease with the county. Do not count on getting gas here, they may or may not be there. I don't blame the FBO as much as I do the County. I called the county judge (voicemail), the county administrator (voicemail and a message) totally inadequate responses. I would think twice about flying down here unless I had plenty of fuel to make it to somewhere else to fuel. This is my first time ever to be too low on fuel to feel comfortable enough to fly elsewhere. 2.5 hours delay getting off ground-- a first in 20 + years.
Flew to PIL today on a Grace Flight. As I taxied in an attendant was there directing me where to park. My plane was refueled where it was parked. The manager was friendly and finished the fuel transaction in short time. I was soon on my way with my two passengers. I might add the restroom was very clean. I recommend this airport to anyone traveling to the Port Isabel / South Padre Island area.
