Excellent airport for getting to Virginia Beach waterfront, about 30 minute drive depending on traffic. People friendly and helpful, overnight tiedown $5. Fuel reasonably priced. We arrived and went to SS fuel. On unicom we were asked if we had a car reserved- we did and Jonathan brought it out to the plane, helped load and push the plane back to a tiedown. Great service. Avis rental was lower cost than Enterprise and in the past we've had mixed success with Enterprise- they charge for days that they are closed even if you don't pick up the car when the day they leave it. Avis is open daily. We used Avis and got a decent rate and the car was there when we arrived. Neither Avis nor Enterprise is on the field so reservation is needed in advance.

Flew in for a one-day meeting. The FBO was great. Friendly folks, efficient in getting us to and from plane with golf cart, despite having to tie down on other side of airport because ramp very full. Restaurant very friendly! Enterprise had car in place, but no key. Enterprise called for credit card info the next day, despite having taken imprint at time of rental. Took 7 calls to get receipt for rental car faxed the next day.

We flew into PVG for a 2-night stay on 6/29/09. This airport is very busy on Saturday! 100LL was as advertised. The lineman brought our rental car to the plane and helped unload the luggage. Enterprise did charge us for 3 days even though we only stayed 2 days (As noted by previous posts). When we reserved the car they faxed us a form to fill out in advance with credit card and insurance info. They even wanted my SS# which I refused. When we got in the car there was a note from Enterprise warning the renter that unless we call them when we return the car, the rental will continue until they are notified of the return. When I called on Monday morning at 0800, no one answered the phone and my call was redirected to Missouri. The person who answered seemed clueless as to why I was calling. IMHO this is the worst place I have ever experienced to rent a car. The restaurant was nice, food was good and the view of the runway was great.

PVG is an excellent mid-Atlantic fuel stop and my preferred stop for visiting the Norfolk area. It is night and day compared to Norfolk International, which is not general aviation friendly (IMHO). PVG has no same day landing fees and self-serve fuel (at time of this post) is super inexpensive (relatively speaking, of course). I highly recommend PVG.

Good service from the airport but pretty lousy service from Enterprise rent a car. If you want the car to be there when you land you should call just before you takeoff otherwise you'll be waiting for them to bring the car. The FBO recommends calling the location directly rather than booking online and expecting it to show up. I also got a better rate on the rental by calling rather than booking online. Parking is $5/night, first night free with fuel, and not really enforced, fuel is cheap. All in all it is a good alternative to KORF.

Virginia Aviation and PVG is the place to go. Friendly service and reasonable fuel prices. Recommend you go there when you are in the Norfolk area!

We always fly into KCPK, but wanted to try something new. Called and they referred us to Enterprise for rental cars. Enterprise can't accommodate a car on the weekend for less than 3-day charges. Headed to KCPK.

I read the comment about PVG being "too busy" and that some of the local pilots don't practice proper pattern/comm procedures. I'm happy to report that I've had quite the opposite experience. Great experience both with the airport and VA Aviation Associates. Very convenient airport with 100LL prices that are far below the regional average and a traffic pattern that rarely has more than one aircraft in it at a time. The towers to the north are only an issue if you don't adhere to proper instrument procedures, or make a habit of scud running VFR. If PVG had an ILS this would be perfect GA airport... I hear it's coming

I started taking my initial flying lessons at PVG (Mercury). The airport now has repaved runways, and it otherwise a good alternative to ORF for GA traffic. However, this is by far the busiest airport in the Hampton Roads area, this being especially true on weekends. Use caution in the pattern, some jerks don't utilize radios in the pattern, cut off people, drop down in front of others on final, and I have had numerous near misses near or in the pattern of this airport. The towers are off to the north west and are generally not an issue, however, are often obscured in haze during the summer. I now do my best to avoid PVG while flying around, just due to the high traffic and boneheads cutting people off in the pattern. Keep your head on a swivel while flying around PVG!

A+ service. Not a single issue with this airport or the people that work here. The ONLY concern for me is those towers near the airport. I knew about them, but it was hazy and well..... Be careful!

I understand there will be an ILS to rwy 10 in the future. That's great. This is a busy airport; that fact, plus the great self-service fuel prices, makes this a place to go, even if just for fuel. The staff are friendly and helpful. If the little café were open more often, I would think they would have plenty of business. I visit frequently because it is a nice experience.

Stopped in Hampton Roads on May 25th for an overnight stay. Came here because of the reports on AirNav.Com. This place is very, very GA friendly. My rental Car was delivered to my plane. A very friendly fellow came out to greet us (forgot his name). Filled up at that SS pump. No overnight or parking fees at all! This place beats ORF hands down!

Came in Christmas Eve. Met the famous Sam. Just as pleasant and helpful as all previous comments. Very helpful and accommodating. Directed me to a tie down for an extended stay, opened the gate for my brother to drive out to my plane and pick me up, and helped me tie her down. All without even knowing whether or not I was even buying gas, and all without a tie down fee. Very pleasant place to stop.
