We visited Raton today, and found the previous comments to be "right on." Fern's hamburgers are superb, and at a fair price too. If coming from Colorado, I recommend traversing Raton Pass right over I-25 at an altitude of 10, 000 feet. That gets you sufficiently above the terrain and the mountain wave. From there, it's an easy descent into RTN.

Keith and Fern, Thanks a million for your gracious hospitality and superb service. The cheeseburger was the greatest, since I hadn't eaten since about 4:30AM, it really hit the spot. The ring was a real hit with Diane, you should be getting something from her soon. The remainder of the trip was pretty much uneventful except for some weather. Back home now but will sure be looking you up the next time I am going that way. Raton will be a must as a gas stop anytime in the future. Merry Christmas to you both and a very prosperous and Happy New Year.

We were traveling from Idaho to Texas and chose Raton for our refueling stop after reading all the positive comments. Keith and Fern were very hospitable. Fern cooked us a couple of burgers, even accommodated for a diet my wife and I are on. We had a great visit with them both before continuing on our journey. I'll be back the next time I'm going that way. Highly recommended.

Wonderful hospitality! Keith fueled us up and Fern filled our bellies. (The cheeseburgers hit the spot!) We returned the favor with an impromptu song from our quartet, which she really enjoyed. :-) Hope you can get a faster computer soon (in the pilot's lounge) for checking weather.... It was soooo slooooowwww.... :-(

When planning my flight to the southwest, I read that Raton was the best FBO there was so I just had to stop. It is true, FBOs do not come any better than Raton. I had called ahead and my rental car was ready to go when I arrived. I got recommendations to a good but inexpensive place to stay -- Raton is the motel capital of the world! -- plus recommendations on places to see. I checked out the NRA Center museum and drove down to the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch and Cimarron, which has an interesting museum and famous old hotel. Although I arrived at the airport very early the next morning, Keith was already there and I enjoyed talking with him and meeting Rex, the airport dog. The FBO office has a small but complete pilot's shop. As others have said, this FBO does it right.

I am moving to Northern New Mexico and need a place to base my flying machine, a Mooney. I have called twice to talk about permanent monthly hangar space, and been told both times, that I need to speak to another person. Second call, she remembered me, and again promised to have him call. No luck so far, but only 4 months. Anybody know a good place to hangar a Mooney in Northern NM at a fair price?Response from Fern Mangelsdorf, Pegasus Aviation Mr. Thrasher I called you at least 5-7 times and never got a response back from you. Maybe the number you gave me I transposed or you moved. I apologize, but I did try to contact you. You may call Keith the airport manager on his cell phone, (505)301-0946. Our office phone is still the same or email Keith @ pegasusaviation@hotmail.com. He is great at returning calls and emails. Have a great day.

The stop could not have been better. One of the best FBO's I have been to. Keith & Fern have run the FBO and grill at KRVN for the past 11 years. They have good prices on fuel, burgers cooked to order, pilot supplies, and rental car. Could not have been a cleaner, more friendly, personal FBO. Would I stop here again? I didn't want to leave!

Keith and Fern are a delightful couple who run a spot-on excellent operation. Keith gave me great advice about where to find fuel as I proceeded south to KALM on my recent trip. An awesome source of flying knowledge, and very gracious in helping me obtain lodging and a car when wx precluded me proceeding further south for the day. I made it a point to stop in Raton on my way back to the Denver area! Awesome place to stop!

Flew in on 28 Sep and got a real NM welcome from Keith and Fern. Superb service from the moment I turned off the active. Guided in and refueled without delay. After some days in MN, a green chile cheeseburger let me know I was back home. I intend to come back and explore the local flying area-and get another burger. When I took the active for departure, had a gathering of five large deer or elk a ways down the runway. Never fear, the FBO all terrain vehicle arrived shortly to scare them off and waited while I took off to make sure they didn't return. Fun!

Stopped there the other day. Was asked while on taxi to ramp whether I needed fuel. I did not. Just the same was guided into a space by the line guy and chocked. Martin even made cookies for us and coffee was ready as well. Great stop with crosswind runway and friendly aviation oriented folks as well.

Always so friendly and helpful. Why go anywhere else? Decent fuel price, with pump service. Will cook you a burger at their snack bar or loan you a car. Heaven for pilots! Closest airport to Philmont and the NRA Wittington Center.

Keith and Fern are the best in the business. Their FBO is home. Their rental vehicles are top notch and they are efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. Couldn't ask for a better destination for bringing our Scout to Philmont Scout Ranch for the week. - The Sky-Tec Family

Stopped by RTN to overnight our Aztec from Denver to San Diego. Keith rented us a nice Expedition for the 15-minute ride to town. Next morning we were fueled and our nose strut was refilled. All up an excellent fuel/overnight stop with excellent, friendly service. We will be back.

Stopped here for gas in my 310 on the way from Arizona to Lake of the Ozarks. We were quickly parked right in front of the building and met with smiles. Even though there is no listing for food we were treated to a wonderful lunch of sandwiches and cheeseburgers while the plane was being fueled. A wonderful visit all around. Planned on stopping on the return trip but had to reroute for other reasons. I hope to return soon.

I have flown into Pegasus Aviation KRTN several times in the past in a King Air 200. This time I flew in for an overnight stop in my C-185 on the way to Idaho. The vehicle we had arranged with Fern was planeside when we parked and Keith was tying our plane down when we got out. Outstanding service regardless of what you fly or how much fuel you buy. I highly recommend flying a few extra miles to stop here. Your business will be appreciated.

Excellent fuel stop. We were met at the pump when we landed for a quick turn. Fuel was the cheapest around. Very nice facility

Landed at Raton for a quick turn. Were communicated with by Unicom and directed to fueling area. Service and facilities were great. Recommend for any cross-country stop or for a longer visit, as low rate rental cars are available. Will stop in the future as plans allow.

My daughter and I landed our C182 there because of the recommendations on AirNav. It was a very nice experience. Stay at the MicroTel, there WI/FI works.
