Well, after talking to airport police, they said that one would need to call one of the FBOs to request a ride over to the Elephant Bar. It just seems like it would be really tacky to go fuel up at MAG and then ask Signature to come get me at MAG to give me a lift to the Elephant Bar. Too bad the fuel pit is on that side of the airport. Great for people at KSBA filling up but not for people wanting to come for lunch.

I fly a Baron and usually take between 80 to 100 gallons per fill. Being based at SBA makes this a winner for me. I used to fill up at CMA and then burn up half of the savings flying to SBA. Santa Paula is OK if you don't mind flying with a bunch of NORDOS in slow aircraft-too dangerous for me just to save a few $$. The City of SB controls/owns the ramp area where the pump is located. I don't think anyone would complain if you parked there for a few hours. The challenge is getting off and on the field with the existing security on all exit/entry gates. You may be able to call the Airport Police (681-4803) to get ingress/egress, provided they have the time to let you out & back in. It is a nice walk to the E-Bar and a longer; but well worth it walk to Beachside for lunch.

I guess I can start coming back to SBA now. However, after fueling, is there anywhere we can go park for free for a couple of hours?

To their credit, they listened to feedback from many of us and they lowered the price to be competitive with the FBO's discounted pricing. Much better! The new pump works great, with big digital numbers displaying the totalizer while you fuel.

When fuel is $4.19 at Santa Paula, why would I pay $4.80 at Santa Barbara?

A brand-new self-service pump, located on the ramp near the west end of Taxiway C on the north side of the airport. A great addition to SBA!
