You can add me to the list of people who have had a lousy experience renting a car at VGT. I made a reservation with Hertz to pick up a car at 1:00 pm on a Friday and was told there would be no problem returning it the next day, Saturday. When I picked up the car I was given instructions for leaving the keys in a drop box upon return. That's what I did. Several days later, I checked my credit card statement and saw I was charged twice as much as agreed. I immediately called Hertz (the local number) and was told I'd been charged for two days instead of one. They said they'd adjust the charge but it could take up to three weeks. Why does renting a car have to be so problematic at this location?

Car Rental on weekends is a problem. Neither Hertz nor Enterprise is staffed. Hertz will charge for weekend days whether you need them or not, pick up keys from terminal people. Enterprise requires you to pick up car on weekday only but does not charge for unused weekend days. Both have key drop-off boxes. Be sure to reserve Enterprise ahead of time, they often have no extra cars available. BTW: Unless you have a good corp. account w/ Hertz, Enterprise is about $10/day cheaper (at this time).

Went to Vegas last weekend (9/12 and 9/13) and parked at VGT. I've been to VGT many times and have been very happy with the service I received. The Follow-me van was already waving at me by the time I turned into the ramp, the line guy tied down my plane for me as I was packing up stuff in the cockpit and he gave me a ride to the terminal. The ladies at the terminal was quick and friendly, I was off to my reserved rental car with Hertz in no time. The nice thing about VGT compared to HND is that it has a crossing runway (7-25), and wind can get pretty crazy at Vegas so a crossing runway is handy in case the wind is not blowing along the direction of the main runways.

I visited KVGT on Friday Aug 21 and 22nd. Nice airport, Service not so nice. Not a good place to go for service, it just won't happen. No Hanger or Shade parking. The good news is it's not a busy airport. Easy in and Easy out. Just remember, don't ask for anything or expect anything.

Getting from the airport to the hotels on (or off) the Strip has been a problem at KVGT. I recommend APT Limousine Service; the Boss is a pilot and understands what we need. I had two nice drivers in a 7 passenger Ford SUV for a very reasonable rate (negotiate a little). They couldn't have been more helpful.

Approach and tower controllers very helpful and friendly. Outstanding FBO immediately met our airplane, tied us down, patiently waited until we unloaded, then took us to the FBO/terminal. Tie-down $5 per night (for a single), with close self-service 100LL $3.62. Forget McCarran! Offered to take us back to the airplane for departure. Well-equipped flight planning room with a PC, printer, and weather PC setup. Car rental companies appear permanently closed; work with the FBO counter personnel, or call car rental companies directly, in advance. Free shuttle service to the strip no longer runs, a sign of the times I guess. This worked well for us: although I planned it in advance: if you can deal with taking two city buses (106 and 108), you can get virtually anywhere downtown or the strip ($3 for a 24-hr bus pass). Bus stops on the street in front of terminal. Ideal if you're there just for the day, or have just a little luggage as we did--car rental prices are high in Las Vegas.

Flew in IFR from the north since unfamiliar w/the local airspace. The Approach controller was very friendly, and kept apologizing for having to route us around military traffic and geography (no apologies needed). Found the FBO to be "ok", but nothing special. Didn't seem to matter one way or the other that we were there. No ride back to the aircraft after dropping off the rental car-- not essential, but it was a fairly long walk and would have been nice. Hertz left the car for us to pick up, no map, no maps at their kiosk (nor at Enterprises'). Fuel was cheap, as posted on AirNav.Com. Very convenient to Las Vegas. Would definitely use again.

Flown into VGT multiple times and kept my Mooney there for 6 months last year - wonderful airport with the best service and gas prices. The only negative point is ground transportation, specifically the 2 rental car companies that service the airport: Enterprise & Hertz. Neither desk is open on weekends and it feels like you are a burden to them when trying to get a car. Last July I waited at the FBO for an hour for the Enterprise rep to show up. Last month I made a reservation with Hertz on a Sunday (serviced by a nearby Hertz location on Rancho Rd); they weren't there when I landed, they didn't leave keys at the FBO desk and they had closed their office. I ended up having to pay $80 in cab fees to get to/from my hotel, plus 2 hours wasted. Got an uninterested 'sorry' from their management when I called the next Monday. Avis is open later and is always friendly but VGT management won't let them operate at the FBO.

North Las Vegas terminal was a breeze. Asked for progressive taxi to terminal. They have a large area of transient parking. Van picked us up with our bags and took us to the front of the terminal where a free shuttle loaded our bags and drove us to our hotel on the strip. Needed a taxi to return to the airport. Self-serve fuel was over $1.00 cheaper than the FBO at home and we are 20 miles from the refinery that makes it. Go figure! Everyone was very helpful. Watch that Class B coming and going. ATC was very helpful on an approach from the SW they routed us over Las Vegas International right over the North Las Vegas.

Flew in for a long weekend in my Saratoga. Definitely a first-class, customer oriented business. From the moment the "Follow Me" van appeared in front of me, we were in excellent hands. The linemen double-chocked and chained us securely, then gave us a ride in the van to the beautiful terminal. Our Hertz keys were waiting at the FBO desk. An hour before departure I called in a fuel order, and asked for oxygen service "if they had time". When we arrived the airplane was fueled, O2 serviced ($15), and paid for 3 nights parking ($5/night). They shuttled us out to the airplane and the lineman untied and unchocked the airplane for us. We were never made to feel less important than if we'd been in a Gulfstream.

Landed at VGT at about 6:45PM local on Thursday night (Sept 25th), the staff was nice and helpful, but did have one problem, no rental car. Earlier in the week I had called Hertz to setup a rental and told them the time I would be flying in, but I guess that didn't matter, they closed at 5:00 PM. Took a $40 taxi ride to the Luxor, which we go to every month, and proceeded to get another ride the next morning to McCarran to pick up a rental. Such a nice GA friendly airport with horrible rental service. When I talked to the lady on the phone, she responded with "there's nothing I can do for you." So when I did rent a car, it sure wasn't from Hertz!! If you fly in later than 5PM, beware!
Response from Doug McNeeley, Airport Manager, North Las Vegas Airport I have contacted Richard Benedito, Location Manager for the Hertz Corporation and informed him of the comments posted by Tom Moody on September 29, 2008. Mr. Benedito agrees this type of service is unacceptable, and he will call Mr. Moody to discuss the matter and apologize. As airport manager I take these sorts of lapses by a commercial tenant seriously, and I would like to extend my apologies as well.

Landed here late on June 17, 2008. I called up on unicom for parking directions which were excellent, but when I came into the terminal the person on the desk couldn't have been less helpful. I asked for hotel suggestions and he just sent me into the briefing room and told me to look at a list. After an hour I had a hotel and a taxi to the strip. On the other hand the next morning the ladies on the desk were extremely pleasant and efficient. I was shuttled across the apron to the aircraft. Self service fuel was easy to use.

Arrived into North Las Vegas airport May 28, 2008 in our Comanche 250. Great gas prices and outstanding service. Had a rental car through Enterprise rental car set up right there. Rate was $33.00 a day. Looked up the same rate on Hotwire and saw that a rate was for $25.99/day. Asked out of curiosity if we could get that rate and was told that rate was for out of McCarran, however the rental car place is only a couple of miles a way. Still all contract signing was done at the NLV terminal. Will leave the car there in the morning when we leave early. Overall a great airport to use if flying into Las Vegas.

Arrived at KVGT on 4/21 and was met by a wonderful staff. We had misplaced a bag and left it on one of their vans. They went the extra effort to find it and return it to us. I can't say enough about this wonderful staff. The airport was exceptionally nice, great prices, and incredible service. Our corporation had been flying to LAS, but I'll make sure we now switch to VGT! Thanks to all.

Stayed four days, $20 parking total. Self serve a breeze $4.34/). Called a cab and it was waiting when I got there. Easy to the strip ($33 with tip) I rented a car from Enterprise and left it on the return. I assume it will be there when they open on Monday. Maybe I should have gotten the insurance...

Well, every time I do get a chance to fly in here, I am never let down. The line guys are great, customer service is great and fuel prices are waaaayyy better than LAS. No ramp fees, here, no outrageous fees with the exception of the norm, but every fee is definitely agreeable and much cheaper than any FBO at LAS. Whenever I do get a chance to fly in the LAS area, I'll stop here over LAS anytime. HND is pretty nice, too, but a little far from the strip.

KNVT was great. I booked Hertz car online. A "Follow Me" van took us to the tie down and gave us a ride to the terminal. I told the driver we had a Hertz car & the Hertz guy was there with the car when we were ready for it. Great gas prices. $0.20 less per gallon for SS. Everyone was nice. We took the rent a car to the Hoover dam for a tour and had lunch at a lookout before the tour. Great stop. Everyone was nice and helpful! One caveat. We came in IFR (VFR conditions) and approach dumped me at 13, 000 with the airport in sight for a visual approach. I had begged for a lower altitude. My advice... Be aggressive to get down as early as possible.

I landed at KVGT on Sept 21 2007. I called on Unicom and they came out with a van to help tie down and carry the luggage to the shuttle. Every one was very professional and friendly. I passed through VGT when I diverted there because of a storm. As I can recall, my son and I taxied in off the runway at night and called UNICOM. A friendly woman politely guided us to the ramp as the tower was closed and the pouring rain didn't help. When we reached the ramp, a vehicle escorted us to a spot out in the boon-docks. The elderly man casually stayed in the van and watched as we soaked ourselves in the rain trying to gather our luggage. When we finally loaded up in the van, the man's overall attitude was quite grouchy and made it seem as though us flying in had ruined his night. After being rushed out of the van and into terminal, a sweet customer service representative arranged transportation and even went to the extent of making some fresh coffee being the terminal was about to close. I've been told that VGT is notorious for catering to jets prior to small guys such as myself, but great desk agents like that one often make up for the line service's lack of interest.

Self-serve pumps are easy to use and easily accessible. Rental cars companies never seem to be staffed on-site, call ahead as Enterprise treated us well! Line staff friendly, the FBO van picked us up with my bags (at the plane) and brought us to a local hotel - my guess though is they cater to the big jets and turbine twins first, but I always seem to arrive during a 'lull'. DO NOT stay at nearby hotels, some are awful (trashy); Texan hotel (and Fiesta) are the best hotels nearby but do not compare to strip hotels - not even close! $6.50 a night for a tie down seems inexpensive to me, this FBO seems "city operated" with no frills (they have free ice though!)- The front desk has always pleasant to me - but they do take their time - they need a baggage carrier, as we had to "lug" the bags back to the plane when we got back. Best bet is to "rent a car" and go to the strip while saving money versus McCarran Airport. Tower controllers are always great to me when I am here.
Response from Doug McNeeley, North Las Vegas Airport I am the VGT Airport Manager. I appreciate Mr. Nahigian's comments and we have just ordered three new luggage carriers. But, on your next trip, save the walk to your aircraft and simply ask a Customer Service Representative for a ride in one of our new vans! In addition to low fuel prices we also offer free transportation from the airport to any hotel on the Strip at designated times. We sincerely "cater" to everyone here - not just turbine aircraft.

Not very friendly, allowed pitot tube cover to be stolen and non-caring. Will never go to North Las Vegas airport again will go to Henderson. If you can avoid this place do so.
Response from Doug McNeeley, VGT Airport Manager After reading Bill Flynn's posting below I called to address his concerns. I discovered that Bill Flynn, Sr. wrote the comments but it was his son, Bill Flynn, Jr., who actually flew the trip. The son explained that, in fact, one of our linepersons was very attentive and spent 10 minutes scouring the ramp for the missing cover, which most likely blew off in the desert wind. Regardless, I'm sending Mr. Flynn a replacement pitot tube cover free of charge with our apologies.

Flew in to KVGT this last, very busy boxing, sports weekend. They had plenty of ramp space and the "follow me" van driver pushed back and tied down our craft securely in spite of 30-40 kt winds. He also chased after flying money etc when a passenger dropped her purse on the tarmac. Good guy. The ladies at the front desk were a little indifferent and continued a really banal conversation rather than giving 100% attention to the customer. I believe these are Clark County employees so it's our govt at work. Hard to imagine getting so worked up over a $5 overnight charge as the last commenter did since some FBO's charge $10 plus just to stop on the ramp. Didn't use the shuttle as passenger had a rental car but Enterprise left the keys and info with the ladies at the desk, no problems. Dropped them 2 days later at the same spot. Have no complaints and recommend both VGT and Henderson as well run, inexpensive County airports with excellent service.

Flew in 4/19/2007 the controllers, linemen, & shuttle driver were professional. The FBO employees were EXTREMELY rude. After flying in & dropping my pax. I flew to Lake Havasu overnight. VGT still charged an overnight fee! When I addressed this I was accused of lying, given the 3rd degree, & CHARGED ANYWAY! Apparently one must check out & since the staff had already gone home at my time of departure I couldn't. They said and I quote, "that's not our problem" All this after politely buying fuel, despite the extremely poor (the WORST I've ever had!) service I received. FBO's can't treat customers this way, they must realize what a small world GA is and that pilots and pax Talk & DO have other options. I've been to dozens of FBO's around the country and have NEVER been treated this poorly. I won't be returning, and I WONT be recommending this FBO to anyone. We have better options & nobody deserves that level of poor service.

RE: Brian Fox Feb 17- The comment about drinking security, I am at VGT every night M-F after hours, and see the security guys every night. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY WRONG about your comment. That was unprofessional and inaccurate. It sounds to me like you had a bad time, fine, No one likes a bad experience, but leave the wild speculations and personal attacks out of it. Landed at approx. 20:00 on a Friday night and the FBO was getting ready to shut down for the night... This is Vegas, and 20:00???? What’s that about? Next we got a ride to the strip, which was timely and did wait to tie the aircraft down, but no shuttle back to the airport. After we were severely disappointed with the activity on the Strip because it was All-Star weekend (avoid this weekend at all costs) we returned at 23:30 on Friday night to find a note on the door for security, a call to security went to a call center which told us that we could use access to the pilots lounge and other FBO facilities, the security officer that opened the door seemed intoxicated and would not let us use the facilities except for immediate departure planning and quick restrooms, I will not be returning to VGT I STRONGLY recommend HND if you desire service, also there is NEVER a service fee, and they are ALWAYS Friendly there.

Flew in for the day in a C172 from San Diego 2-12-07. Great service from the lineman who guided us to the terminal. He tied up the plane and gave us a ride to the terminal. Upon entering, the staff greeted us and we signed in. I made prior arrangements through Toyota Rent-a Car and our new Corolla was waiting outside. The lady at the counter handed me the keys and off we went. The cost for the rental was $35 with taxes for the day. Well worth the money. The manager, Tony at Toyota was helpful and advised they give discounts for multiple days. We felt like we flew in a gulfstream with the great service we got. Will fly in again for sure. On a side note, I used the self-serve pump and used my debit card and pressed the "fill up" button. Well to my surprise, I was billed $650 for 21 gallons of Avgas. I called and the rep at the terminal she said I would get reimbursed the remaining amount in three business days. Easier to use the fuel lineman for the 20 cents extra per gallon.

Regarding ground transportation from North Las Vegas Airport to the Las Vegas Strip, the airport offers a courtesy shuttle that runs daily at 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600, and 1800, with an additional departure at 2000 on Friday and Sunday. The shuttle is dependable, free of charge, and it will take you to the resort property of your choice. After feedback from AirNav users, I have contacted the shuttle company and their drivers will now wait up to 15 minutes after the last departure time for inbound pilots who contact us on Unicom. Please note two other local FBOs share our frequency, so be sure you are talking with North Las Vegas when you make your initial call. Enterprise (702-395-2244) and Hertz (702-395-2207) both guarantee they will be at the airport to meet anyone with a prior reservation. The response from taxicab companies is dependent on their workload and at peak times the wait can exceed 30 minutes. For this reason, we suggest you use the shuttle or car rental companies.

Arrived on the 19th of Nov for a Thanksgiving week stay. Approach control and Tower were fantastic. Vectored us over LAS for a great view of the strip at night. Touched down at 1958 hours. Van met us and we followed to parking. Lineman unloaded our bags at 2000 hours and called inside for the shuttle to hold. Desk staff replied the shuttle stopped running “5 minutes ago.” Very frustrating since we called ahead on Unicom. Inside the shuttle driver was saying goodbye to front desk staff as we were checking in. It wasn’t like other customers were already in the van; he just wanted to get off work! Very frustrating since we called ahead on Unicom 20 minutes prior. Outside crew was excellent on both arrival and departure. Inside crew was terrible for both…very poor attitudes!! Give city workers a bad name. Recommendations for Airport Manager to terminate inside crew and replace with people like the outside crew. Free bottled water in pilots lounge a nice touch. Overall a nice airport for the area, as long as you know what to expect with the desk staff; which is very poor customer service and an overall feeling of unhappiness.

Arrived in a C414 in a hurry for a downtown meeting. Called 20 minutes ahead on Unicom, asking that a cab be waiting. Was promised "OK, no problem". After landing, all desk personnel denied responding to my Unicom call . . . But someone had certainly answered me! I was told cabs would take >45 minutes to arrive, neither car rental counter was manned (at 4pm on a Monday!), and the shuttle didn't leave for a half hour. No one was willing to provide a ride, at ANY price! It took >90 minutes after landing to get downtown. The good news is that line service folks were excellent, avgas was cheap, the hotel shuttle is actually complimentary when it does run, and ATC was wonderful at managing a huge density of traffic. Depart VFR if you can, and activate your IFR once airborne. Coordinate in advance with Clearance Delivery. If you await IFR release on the ground, you'll wait 30+ minutes at rush hour to get off, and you'll fly a crazy, time-wasting departure route.
