Well, I finally made it to the Spitfire Deli and learned first-hand how great the food it there. The cheeseburger was stupendously delicious!

The Spitfire Grill is a great place for lunch - food selection is really good, excellent location right on the ramp, so you can "rate the landings" along with enjoying quality food such as grilled chicken salads, large variety of deli-sandwiches, large $100 burgers and outstanding desserts. Enjoy!!

Best tasting, gut busting, "drag it through the garden", bacon cheeseburger I've had in years. Then topped it off with a Triple bypass Chocolate Cake (Swear I did NOT eat the WHOLE thing, dude) covered with whip cream and drizzled chocolate syrup. Then I jogged two traffic patterns to keep from having to crossfeed fuel for CG. Going back on Tuesday, then Saturday, then...

19 of us from our EAA chapter swarmed into the Spitfire Deli and received first class service and some of the best food on the planet. This is not your typical deli this is a gourmet deli. Fabulous food, great view of the runway and a patio. What more could an aviator looking for a lunch destination ask for? Put this one on your chart.

What a treat. I have eaten at the Spitfire Deli many times and I have never had a bad experience. The only thing better than the food is Celia and her family that run the Spitfire. The hamburgers and Fish & Chips are the best, but Celia can even make a grilled chicken salad taste good. You can park right in front, and sit outside if you want. Prices are inexpensive, especially considering the size of the meals. Highly recommend.... Just wish there was more airports with Spitfire Deli's.

Flew in for a $100.00 hamburger on 9/10 but opted for some freshly made egg salad. Celia does a great job preparing the food and a better job bragging about her new granddaughter. I highly recommend this place and will make it a regular stop just for the food and friendship at the Spitfire. Now if Celia could just learn how to pronounce tomato..

Kathy and I flew 200 miles just to enjoy the Spitfire Deli. We were not disappointed as Celia is a delightful person as well as a super chef. The food is great and prices are reasonable. Celia's husband and daughter help out, so it is truly a family business and they all take pride in the product. We will return and bring all our friends. Try the banoffee desert! We stopped at the Spitfire Deli for lunch at 2:40 PM on Monday -- about 20 minutes before closing time. Celia fixed us all a great lunch while Romanair fixed my flat nose wheel. Stopped back again yesterday on the return trip. Very nice folks! Be sure to check out the Banoffi Pie from the desert menu.

The Georgia Pilots Association held its first ever Meet and Greet at the Spitfire Deli at KWDR. As usual the food was excellent and the owners went out of their way to accommodate us. I cannot say enough good things about the Spitfire Deli.

Ate lunch at the Spitfire Grill today. The food is terrific and service is awesome. Owners are very nice and run a great restaurant. All their deserts are homemade so don't forget to try one when you stop in. THANKS SPITFIRE!!

We made Winder our fuel stop on our way from Orlando Fla. To Van Wert Ohio. The plan was to eat lunch at the Spitfire. We landed at 3:45 p. M. On Monday after a 3.5 hour flight with our 2 kids and the Spitfire was closed. I started to think that we were going to have to wait till we got to Ohio in 4.5 more hours to eat. Celia was cleaning and seen us looking in the door and Reopened just for us! We got 4 sandwiches and chips (roast beef, Ham, BLT, and Chicken salad) for under $23.00! Thank you for saving us from the cheese crackers from the FBO's machine! Good Luck to your daughter!

Flew into Winder from X47 (Bunnell, FL) on our way to KMBT (Murfreesboro, TN) for a fuel and food stop. The folks at the Spitfire are pleasant, the food is good and the atmosphere is perfect for those who live in the sky. We'll be back.

Wonderful people. On a recent trip I had planned a food/fuel stop at WDR. When our plans changed, we would have arrived well after the Spitfire closed. The proprietor offered to make up sandwich boxes for us and leave them with the FBO. We paid via credit card over the phone and enjoyed an early supper a few hours after they closed. Being this helpful to an obvious transient customer speaks volumes of people running this fine, fly-in restaurant. I'll plan on stopping there again whenever I find myself in the area and hope to see them face-to-face next time.

Stopped in my third time on my way from Ft. Lauderdale and this is a very fine airport for a stop. The people that frequents this airport are quite nice and helpful, the military personnel training in the helicopters are very accomodating, and Spitfire Pete's is a very nice small restaurant. Spitfire does changes their times from time to time, so make sure you get there before 4P or call ahead. There are Flight planning facilities in abundance, but clearance is through a GCO that is unreliable, but VFR and clearance in the air works - if conditions permits. Fuel prices are very reasonable and an excellent stopover point coming North from Florida.

Locked up tight 15 min before closing time on Saturday afternoon. We followed another hungry pilot who'd arrived a few minutes prior over to LZU. Consider calling ahead.
Response from Ian Lockwood, The Spitfire Deli We apologize to anyone who flew in later on a Saturday and found we had already closed. We have had to change our hours on a Saturday from 9:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m. Please call ahead.

9/2/06. Stopped in at the Spitfire for a late lunch, but the grill was closed. Owners Ian and Celia fixed us a couple sandwiches and it was great. Very friendly people and the place was very clean. Will stop in again and try to make it before 2:00P since traffic dies after that. This is a must stop as whenever you go through Georgia.

Flew in a few weeks ago with my son and his friend for the Poker Run held by EAA 690 at Gwinnett County. Have been here many times and always enjoy the excellent food along with the very sociable owners...They are always a delight to see as they are very friendly and cordial. True service with a SMILE! The place is popular and I can see why...Fly in and taxi right up the restaurant.

Stopped on 04/09/06 for lunch. Great food and excellent service! Even the picky passengers loved their sandwiches and salads, requesting to make this a regular on their N/S Florida migrations. They were open extra Sunday hours for Sun n Fun fliers.

I'm based at KLZU. My wife and I have been coming to the Spitefire since the day it opened. Celia and Ian are GREAT people. Celia puts out the best fare of any airport deli or cafe I've visited in 38 years of flying. You'll likely NOT find a better $100 hamburger; but the rest of the menu is Darn good, too. Try the Rueben, it's fabulous. Oh yes, don't forget to offer Ian a flight. He's a sucker for the right seat.
